Preparation H is a topical cream used by humans to treat hemorrhoids and other anal discomforts. However, it is not safe to apply this cream to dogs, as they may experience digestive upset. To stop dog diarrhea, withhold food from your dog for a short time and follow a 12-hour fast. One common medication for dogs with diarrhea is loperamide, which is the active ingredient in Imodium. However, the dosage for dogs is much lower than that for humans.
To manage mild cases of dog diarrhea at home, follow these six tips:
- Ingesting a small amount of Preparation H may cause some mild GI signs.
- Ingesting a small mount may cause some mild GI signs.
- Hemorrhoid cream is not recommended for dogs because their gastrointestinal system is different from humans.
- Some hemorrhoid creams contain ingredients that could be harmful to dogs if used incorrectly.
- If you suspect your dog has irritated themselves and their rectal area is inflamed and agitated, apply Preparation-H.
Current versions of Preparation H in the United States are generally considered non-toxic. Ingesting a small mount may cause some mild GI signs.
In conclusion, pet owners should consult with a veterinarian if they notice any adverse reactions in their dogs after using Preparation H. Home remedies like pumpkin, pumpkin oil, and loperamide can help manage mild cases of dog diarrhea at home.

Can I send a photo of the area on my dog (3 yr old pit terrier)that I assume is hemorrhoids due to her change in diet and lack of water intake ( she’s not wanting to drink her clean purified water). She will stay in a pooping position and strain when there’s nothing else to come out. The. Has scooted her rear end so much that it’s raw and bleeding. She’s too aggressive when taking her to the vet and is an ordeal to get her checked out for ANYTHING! Not to mention The stress it puts on her as well. Any advice e would be greatly appreciated.
