6. Conclusions. In conclusion, black seed, also known as Nigella sativa, has promising potential as a natural antidote in poisoning instances. The various Nigella sativa extracts, especially the crude alkaloid extracts, show antibacterial action against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, with a higher efficiency against Gram-negative strains. The anti-inflammatory properties of Nigella sativa also help to reduce inflammation and have analgesic effects. Furthermore, it exhibits hepatoprotective properties by reducing the liver’s adverse effects from toxins and enhancing antioxidant defense systems. In cases of specific drug-induced toxicities, such as cyclophosphamide-induced pulmonary injury, cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity, doxorubicin-induced hyperlipidemic nephropathy, paracetamol-induced hepatotoxicity, sodium nitrite toxicity, and toluene-induced testicular toxicity, Nigella sativa and its active component, thymoquinone, exhibit protective effects and aid in restoring normal physiological functions. These results indicate that Nigella sativa is a potential natural treatment for poisoning patients, with potential therapeutic advantages that call for additional study and investigation.

To keep yourself comfortable and avoid dehydration, Majlesi recommended staying constantly hydrated. If you are replenishing with an electrolyte solution, make sure the product is low in sugar. “Some of the electrolyte solutions have way too much sugar in them and can actually worsen diarrhea, so you want to be careful about that,” he said.

Along with water, the National Institutes of Health recommends adults replace lost fluids with broths and sports drinks. Additionally, NIH advises fruit juice with water added to make it more diluted. Children, on the other hand, should use an oral rehydration solution such as Pedialyte to ease food poisoning symptoms.

You’ll also want to steer clear of solid foods for 24 hours, especially if you are having trouble keeping food down. Majlesi said doing so gives the digestive system time to rest and recover during this period of inflammation. Adults can take over-the-counter antidiarrheal medications such as bismuth subsalicylate (brand names Kaopectate and Pepto-Bismol) or loperamide (brand name Imodium) to manage diarrhea symptoms.

  • Before taking black seed oil, I was sick daily with headaches 🤢dizziness, & nausea constantly! 1/2 a tsp & 5 minutes later… All my illness symptoms disappeared!!! SubhanAllah!!! 🙏🏽 It’s been 6 hours since I took that small dose & I feel great 👍🏽😊. Black seed oil is truly a miracle. I had been sick for a month before taking this dose of oil today. I’m crying 😭 tears of joy.

  • I have been taking BSO for about 2 years now. Colon cancer runs heavy in my family and i am 64 years old and tying to help prevent it along with cutting out most of sugars and carbs possible. I found Bionatal black seed oil has the highest level of THQ of over 4% and i am buying the oil which is pretty pricy but i started with 1 teaspoon a day but now taking 2 a day and i really like it.

  • I just started taking it 3rd day in. I’m starting out only with 1 teaspoon at night. After a week I will start taking 1 teaspoon also in the morning. That’s it. I noticed my Acid reflux has stopped, and my breathing at night is good. Usually I cough as I am sleeping, probably from acid reflux. But so far so good. It’s not really bad tasting, I put it in some tart cherry juice along with my vitamins.

  • Great article. Just a correction though: Muslim scholars have understood the statement of Prophet Muhammad to mean that there is an element of cure in black seeds for the diseases that it should be taken for. It’s was not understood as an absolute literalistic statement, which is due to the meaning of the original Arabic rather than the English translation.

He fell ill on the way and when we arrived at Medina he was still sick. Ibn Abi ‘Atiq came to visit him and said to us, “Treat him with black cumin. Take five or seven seeds and crush them (mix the powder with oil) and drop the resulting mixture into both nostrils, for `Aisha has narrated to me that she heard the Prophet (ﷺ) saying, ‘This black cumin is healing for all diseases except As-Sam.’ Aisha said, ‘What is As-Sam?’ He said, ‘Death.” Sahih al-Bukhari 5687 sunnah.com/bukhari:5687 Authentic Hadith and I’m a Muslim

  • In taking BSO for over a year and doubling the dose I noticed a few benefits. I am no longer prediabetic. I was able to get off Blood pressure med. I was taking 45mg of thyroid med and cut down to 15mg. I became hyperthyroid so went to the lab a few times so my dr could adjust thyroid med till I was normal. I was taking 3/4 teas of BSO twice a day.. Now I take 1/2 a teaspoon twice a day. If I’m going out I take the caps with me as it’s easier.

  • I was having difficulty breathing. It was probably a combination of smoking and living in a house that had mold. At times I couldn’t walk a block without having difficulty breathing. I moved out of the house and started taking black seed oil everyday. All my breathing problems disappeared within a few months. I thought I had COPD. Today I have no breathing problems I work out aggressively with no problem.

  • Great article. I buy this (organic-Cold Pressed) by the Jar. I also have a bag of the seeds themselves to sprinkle on salad and maybe grind some up. It has benefits purportedly for Cancer as well. Can help the Liver. I take approx 1 tsp per day. Love the taste but some may not and you could mix it in with a healthy dressing in a salad.

  • I have had a cough that at times is followed by heartburn and I just started taking digestive enzymes, but I’m also taking black seed oil. My bso is 1 soft gel 2 x’s a day at1250 mgs. I am only taking one instead of 2, also am trying to lose weight. Naomi Whettel’s products work well along with this. I hope I’m taking enough.

  • I just started BSO in the last week. My pain levels on a scale of 1-10 has been a 15 due to the damage of 9 DVTs in my lifetime. The pain has been horrible nothing has helped ever. Doctors tell me nothing they can do. This is all new to me. My husband got a bottle of it. The taste is a bit rough but my pain levels have decreased. Hopefully it helps me to improve more

  • Have you been to Turkey? We have this traditional old street food Simit. It’s coated with sesame. And also Poğaça with Black Seed. Also type of flat bread ”Pide” coated with Nigella Seed. I love especially Nigella Seed. But I didn’t know it had all those benefits. I can’t eat anything lab made or junk, I think my body automatically knows what’s good for body, beneficial 😊

  • Sushruta Ayurveda mentioned Kalonji 1600 BC 🔥 Native to the Mediterranean and Asian regions, Black Seed has been cultivated for over 3,000 years for a multitude of uses. Harvested from the Nigella sativa plant, Black Seed has been used by the ancient Egyptians to treat ailments such as digestive issues and inflammatory skin conditions such as rashes and bites.

  • I am 28 and I’ve been taking black seed oil for a year now. I’ve noticed a significant boost in my overall well-being. The immune system boost is real. I used to catch every little bug that came my way, but not anymore. My skin has never looked better, thanks to the natural glow and hydration from black seed oil. 💁‍♀ It’s become a staple in my skincare routine, and I can’t get enough of the radiant results. The digestive support is another highlight. Black seed oil has been gentle on my stomach and has contributed to a more balanced digestive system. I recommend everyone to try it! I’ve tried couple of different brands and ended up with Rawya. You should also try some brands to find the ideal one for you. The most important thing is TQ level. It should contain at least 2% TQ, which is 100 mg per 5g serving.

  • I don’t understand the people who say “it doesn’t work for me” if you’re a human, it works for you. It may reverse diabetes for one person and reduce symptoms for the other. It may stop a sinus for you instead of back pain relief. Not all benefits are felt immediately or at all. You’d have to take tests to see some of the differences. Also, I’ve heard many people talking about “Oh it made me bloated, it made me so sick. I said forget this! Its horrible” Or “Well. Its day one. Cant tell yet” NOOOOO REALLLLY?????? REALLLY??? 😂😂😂 I mean COME ON. TAKE ACCOUNTABILITY FOR YOUR WELL BEING. IF you felt nauseas or bloated, take LESS. IF you cannot handle 500mg, start with a teaspoon at night. Work your way up. Start with 100mg work your way up. Please. Don’t use it the wrong way or in too high of a dose and say it doesn’t work. Also, most studies show that results were shown anywhere from 8 weeks and up. You know, when a person who is healthy has an abrupt heart attack- most would say that 5 seconds before they felt great!! You never know what is going on inside if you dont ever check. If you have a health issue or not-Take independent tests and go to Quest labs. Measure the results yourself after a course of 4 to 8 weeks. See whats changed. What has improved. Be realistic about it. We ALL want instant change. We don’t want to wait to feel relief. But there is a process. A necessary one. You can do this and it CAN work for you.

  • Hello Dr. Childs, one question that springs to mind over and over when listening to your articles is if I should consider myself a Hashimoto Thyroiditis sufferer given my Hashimoto was diagnosed more than 20 years ago and it has completely destroyed my Tyrode gland. I would appreciate it if you could clarify. Thx,

  • Hi doc, Just wanted to comment on your statement saying what prophet muhammed (pbuh) said isn’t far from the truth. All Prophet Mohammed’s (pbuh) statement’s is the absolute truth. Before prophethood he was called and known as the trustworthy or the trusted one by people that knew him. Even by those who saw him as an enemy. Thanks for the article 👍

  • Hi Doc. So I have had elevated anti TG and anti TPO for a while and they are now in 100’s. But my thyroid levels all are normal but I have been loosing weight as also suffering from leaky gut. For the past 6 months I am off gluten and dairy my symptoms feel better but antibodies still high. So do you suggest I try 500 mcg or 1000 mcg to help me. I am already using black seed every day in my diet about a teaspoon in food.

  • Thanks Doctor for your conscientious support and help for us all. J Sorry ust one thing, Mohammed is neither a prophet nor a good man at all ..he married 43 woman and one of them was a 9 y old whom he got engaged to when she was 6 y. while he was in his forties. Plus calling his people to kill others if they refuse to follow him and many many other bad stuff that the west doesn’t know about. Plus black seeds grew in south west Asia, Middle East and southern Europe where he was there to have fun ; invade kill and steel people’s homes and their inventions and attributes it to him. God bless you Doctor ❤

  • What about the whole seed? Just cooked some with my oat porridge. Oil terrbly expensive in Sweden. For (chronic) Sinusitis, make daily infusions from (fresh if possible, picked in dry, sunny weather in mid-morning, or dried) Plantain and Elderflower. Plantain is also good for poultices, and I’d make some as well, especially if teeth, gums and jawbone are affected by inflammation etc.

  • I bought high thimoquinone 5X organic cold pressed in amber glass. I bought and sterilized an amber colored eyedropper bottle. Two droppers equals 1 top. I put it under my tongue and gulp it down with each morning coffee containing raw unfiltered organic honey (liquid gold). I am up to 1 tbsp (6 droppers). Hardly taste it. Could do with orange juice.

  • prophet Mohamed is the prophet for all of mankind and he had an absolutely true religion of Islam, the perfect guide and peace for humanity, also the Islam is the awaited savior of humanity, everyone owes it to him or herself to check out Islam, it is your birth right, Do not let the haters poison your mind with islamophobia or false information about it, go to a mosque or Islamic center and get a copy of the Quran and speak to an Imam . This is the best advice someone could give you today.

  • Dr. Childs, One week ago I started taking black seed oil,1 teaspoon per day, and have benefitted from more energy and better sleep. I am on Levothyroxine 100 mg, Bendroflumethiazide 25 mg for underactive thyroid, and Atenolol 25mg for high blood pressure. I can’t seem to lose weight.I would like to continue with the oil, but is it safe to take long term? I have not had any adverse effects as yet.

  • I NOTICED, IN THIS article, AND MANY OTHERS, THIS DR. SAYS, “MAYBE, PROBABLY, AND MIGHT”, A LOT! EITHER IT IS OR IT IS NOT. ONE OF THE MAIN SYMPTOMS OF THYROID DISEASE IS, CONFUSION!!!!! WHEN I LITSEN TO THIS DOCTOR, HE ONLY INCREASES THE CONFUSION. LIKE MY FATHER USED TO SAY, “EITHER YOU’RE PREGNANT OR YOU’RE NOT!” TRUTH CANT BE YES AND NO. MAYBE. PERHAPS!!!!!!! CERTAINTY IS BASED ON FACTS, SIR. IT’S LIKE HEARING FROM SOMEONE WITH A FORKED TONGUE. IF YOU HAVE A MEDICAL DEGREE, IT SHOULDN’T BE TOO MANY TIMES, YOU USING DOUBTING WORDS AND PHRASES. A HIGH SCHOOLER COULD GET AWAY WITH THESE EXPLANATIONS. PERHAPS. MAYBE….UGH!
