Triglyceride lipases (TAGs) are essential for energy production and are primarily synthesized in the liver. These lipoproteins are transported in the blood as lipoproteins and stored in adipose tissue. The major classes of blood lipoproteins involved include high-density lipoprotein (HDL), intermediate-density lipoprotein (IDL), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL), and chylomicrons. Chylomicrons transport dietary TAGs from the small intestine to tissues like muscle and adipose.
During times of energy deprivation, WAT is stimulated via homeostatic control to shift toward higher net rates of lipolysis. This compensatory process is regulated through hormonal and biochemical signals. Lipolysis proceeds in an orderly and controlled manner, with different enzymes acting at each step. Catecholamines are the primary activators of lipolysis, while other hormones and dietary compounds also affect it.
What enzyme metabolizes fat?
Lipid metabolism begins in the intestine where ingested triglycerides are broken down into smaller chain fatty acids and subsequently into monoglyceride molecules by pancreatic lipases, enzymes that break down fats after they are emulsified by bile salts. When food reaches the small intestine in the form of chyme, a digestive hormone called cholecystokinin (CCK) is released by intestinal cells in the intestinal mucosa. CCK stimulates the release of pancreatic lipase from the pancreas and stimulates the contraction of the gallbladder to release stored bile salts into the intestine. CCK also travels to the brain, where it can act as a hunger suppressant.
Figure 2. Chylomicrons contain triglycerides, cholesterol molecules, and other apolipoproteins (protein molecules). They function to carry these water-insoluble molecules from the intestine, through the lymphatic system, and into the bloodstream, which carries the lipids to adipose tissue for storage.
Together, the pancreatic lipases and bile salts break down triglycerides into free fatty acids. These fatty acids can be transported across the intestinal membrane. However, once they cross the membrane, they are recombined to again form triglyceride molecules. Within the intestinal cells, these triglycerides are packaged along with cholesterol molecules in phospholipid vesicles called chylomicrons. The chylomicrons enable fats and cholesterol to move within the aqueous environment of your lymphatic and circulatory systems. Chylomicrons leave the enterocytes by exocytosis and enter the lymphatic system via lacteals in the villi of the intestine. From the lymphatic system, the chylomicrons are transported to the circulatory system. Once in the circulation, they can either go to the liver or be stored in fat cells (adipocytes) that comprise adipose (fat) tissue found throughout the body.

Macadamia nuts, walnuts, pine nuts, Brazil nuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, flax seeds, chia seeds, and unsweetened dried cranberries are always included. I only buy dry roasted with no other ingredients. Then I put Celtic salt on them to help with my low blood pressure. A little bit of allulose tones down the tartness of the cranberries.
I love that you made this article…After perusal your articles previously I have changed my morning oatmeal recipe. Now no more instant. I now make my morning oats with 1/2 cup rolled oats, 1/4 cup chopped walnuts, 1 tbsp ground flax seed, 1 tbsp chia seeds, 1 tbsp ground pumpkin seeds, 1 tbsp stevia, 1 tsp cinnamon, 1 tbsp coconut oil, and 1/2 tsp ginger or allspice, 1/2 cup almond milk and 1/2 cup water. It is much healthier, gloriously tasty, and I’m loving it.
I actually really enjoy Walnut’s, Pecan’s, easy to find I soak overnight a tablespoon of 7 grain natural raw grains, also a 1/2 cup of organic raisins, “Almond’s not my favorite” add 1/2 fresh squeezed orange! Half an organic apple, 1/2 an organic banana mashed. Mix all together with freshly cup of fresh freshly squeezed orange juice. And enjoy a light satisfying brekky —when lunch comes around have a great mixed salad with a number of Dr Li’s recommendation veggies. I just use a good Italian olive oil, with organic Lemon juice. Dr. Li thank you for a great article. Great presentation, nicely put together, fantastic delivery, super simple, focused, to the point etc, etc. This is entirely my point of view. The single most important cause of all disease is mineral deficiency. Other food groups Carbs, Proteins, fats, vitamins .. not so much. It is the mineral lacking diet that is the cause of most disease. Dietary fiber and protein are all very well. But the most important facet of tree-nuts is their rich mineral content. Without minerals our body cannot process foods properly. Most chronic disease becomes rapidly treatable by introducing foods rich in minerals. Not mineral supplements but mineral foods. Take the example of diabetes. When supplemented with mineral rich tree-nuts diabetes becomes 100% curable. Why are nuts from trees so mineral rich. Because .. most of our agricultural top-soils are mineral depleted. And with no natural flood system in place, top soils have no means of replenishing minerals. Mineral content in regular foods (with shallow roots) has consistently gone down. This is where tree-nuts come in. With their deep roots they are able to provide plentiful minerals to their nuts. Processed food manufacturers need to hear from consumers that less ADDED chemicals, sugar, oil and salt is wanted in their food products. Why is there so much ADDED sugar in everything, even bread. That’s just crazy Email, text, tweet or phone your favorite producer of poison and let them know consumers want less salt, oils and sugars in their products. Let their customer service department know that all the extra added salt, oil and sugar is not necessary or desired and is causing health issues. Reduce or eliminate highly processed food from your diet if you can.
Walnuts, pine nuts and macadamia nuts give me cystic acne. Macadamias are the worse. I remember when we were kids my grandma would tell us not to eat too many cashews because they have a poison in them. They come from the cyanide plant so maybe there’s some truth to it. I do eat them covered in chocolate!
