A diarrhea diet is a simple and effective way to manage diarrhea, as it is bland, low in fiber, and helps firm up stool. It is designed for short-term use and can be easily followed. Some foods, like wheat bran, can help with diarrhea by attracting water into the intestines, making stools softer and easing digestion. However, excessive consumption can worsen symptoms. Bananas are a great source of potassium, which is essential for loose bowel syndrome.
Blank foods like chicken, fish, eggs, puddings, mashed potatoes, noodles, rice, yogurt, cottage cheese, cream of wheat, farina, and the BRAT (bananas, rice, applesauce, toast) diet can help reduce diarrhea. However, consuming only these foods does not provide enough nutrition for the digestive system. Bran fiber can worsen irritable bowel syndrome symptoms, so many gut health experts do not recommend wheat bran for people with IBS.
To avoid diarrhea, avoid high-fiber foods like whole grains, whole grain breads and cereals, bran, brown rice, and raw vegetables. Instead, opt for bland, easy-to-digestible foods like chicken, fish, eggs, puddings, mashed potatoes, noodles, rice, yogurt, cottage cheese, cream of wheat, farina, and other low-fiber, low-fat, starchy foods.

Bland foods, such as bananas, white rice, applesauce, and toast, are good to eat when you have diarrhea. These foods bulk up stool and prevent stomach upset.
Bland foods, such as applesauce, bananas, crackers, and toast, are good to eat when you have diarrhea. It’s also important to stay hydrated with water or tea to replenish lost fluids. Diarrhea is a common digestive condition that causes loose or watery stools. You may also have symptoms like a fever or abdominal cramps.
It’s important to choose foods that are easy on your digestive tract and help replace fluids and nutrients lost through loose stools. Foods low in fiber, fat, added sugar, and other ingredients can worsen diarrhea.
Making temporary changes to your diet, such as removing certain foods and prioritizing others, could help improve your symptoms. Here’s what to eat and drink when you have diarrhea and when to see a healthcare provider.
What should I eat for breakfast if I have Diarrhoea?
What you choose to eat can either improve or worsen your symptoms when you have diarrhea. Some foods, such as salty low-fiber crackers, white rice, broth, and applesauce, may firm up your stool and replace lost nutrients. Other foods, such as high-fat or fried foods, can make your diarrhea worse.
Treatment for diarrhea depends on the cause, so it’s always best to visit a healthcare provider if you have diarrhea that isn’t getting better. Talk to a healthcare provider if you have an underlying condition that could be causing diarrhea.
Are bran muffins good for a bowel movement?
It should be no surprise that studies show wheat bran can relieve constipation and improve digestion. The outer layer of the wheat kernel is a fiber force with a whopping 25 grams per cup. Sprinkle it over your oatmeal, eat a bowl of bran cereal, or whip up a batch of bran muffins.
If all these don’t do it for you, there’s always the reliable morning cup of joe. Not to worry if you’re not a fan of the buzz—it’s not just the caffeinated stuff that works.
One study found that coffee—including decaf—means a bathroom visit for about 30 percent of people. Experts believe coffee’s acidity is key, notably its chlorogenic acid, a compound that gives java the bitter flavor. Warm liquids can give your colon a jump-start, too, so tea or even warm water with lemon can work as well.
Is bran bread good for diarrhea?
On the flip side, the other type of fiber is insoluble fiber. Insoluble fiber is found in bran, several types of fruits, and whole grains. This type of fiber doesn’t absorb fluid and can speed up digestion. So, you generally want to avoid insoluble fiber until your stools have a firmer consistency.
The diarrhea diet is intended for the short-term treatment of occasional diarrhea. It can also help ease sudden, severe bouts of diarrhea in people with chronic (persistent) conditions like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and celiac disease.
Kids and Diarrhea Diets. If you have an infant or young child, it is essential to watch for dehydration. Kids become dehydrated more quickly than adults. If your little one has additional symptoms such as fever and vomiting, diarrhea that lasts for several days, or is an infant, reach out to a healthcare provider for advice.

What is the best breakfast for diarrhea?
- Baked potatoes: Potatoes without the skin are easy on the stomach and contain potassium, an electrolyte lost through diarrhea.
- Broths and soups: Low-fat and low-fiber soups and broths are hydrating and high in nutrients lost through watery stools, such as sodium.
- Plain crackers: Plain crackers made with white or gluten-free low-fiber flour are easy to digest and can soothe your stomach.
- Low-fiber breakfast cereals: Opt for cornflakes and farina over higher-fiber options.

Bran Muffins Ingredients. These are the ingredients you’ll need to make this top-rated bran muffin recipe:
Wheat bran : You’ll usually find wheat bran in the grain section of the grocery store, near the flour. Buttermilk : Buttermilk lends moisture, flavor, and contributes to the light and fluffy texture. Brown sugar : This bran muffin recipe calls for brown sugar instead of white sugar, which gives it a warm sweetness. Vegetable oil : A neutral oil, such as vegetable oil, adds moisture without imparting flavor. Egg : An egg lends even more moisture and helps bind the muffin batter together. Vanilla : A dash of vanilla extract enhances the overall flavor of the muffins. Flour : All-purpose flour creates structure and helps bring the batter together. Leaveners : Baking soda and baking powder act as leaveners, which means they help the muffins rise. Salt : Salt enhances the flavors of the other ingredients, but they won’t make the muffins taste salty. Raisins : Raisins add bursts of sweet flavor, but you can leave them out if you like.

📹 Psyllium Husks, Uses, Dosage and Side Effects
Here’s what you need to know about psyllium husks. Check this out.
You’d be surprised how many people are still in the dark about topics like this! It’s easy to be fooled by healthy ingredients like “bran” and “carrot” – and people obliviously down 500 calories (not to mention all that sugar) in seconds. This is a great article. And as always love Joy’s “everything in moderation” philosophy!
Well, believe it or not, a lot of people don´t know, or at least don´t understand the reality of junk food, what it´s made of and what´s exactly what makes it junk. Example: the ones that buy “light” products, like light coke (still sugar,), light pringles (still pure flour and lots of salt), “diet” cookies ( flour, salt, butter, sugar), etc etc etc. I think eating healthily also implies that we understand totally what our daily food is made of: that´s the only way to change out eating habits
That’s good. If you eat pretty much the same from week to week, you won’t get fat (unless you’re fat from before). And if someone is fat, and are trying to lose weight, all they gotta do is eat less. Or excercise more. There are so many misconceptions around this, that’s why I get so frustrated! xD Saying one type of food is bad because you will get fat, is just wrong. Anyway, stay safe. 🙂
I eat everything in moderation. Don’t spend extra money on muffin-tops, just cut a muffin in thirds and enjoy a little bit with a cup of coffee. The rest of the meal should be things like vegetables and proteans. A little bit of everything (even things like mac and cheese at dinner) is fine, as long as you pair it with healthy sides.
well you can, actually you can stay thin eating high calorie food and never doing a thing, it is called eating small portion and not all high calorie foods are bad, it is just that you do not need a lot of them, like nuts are good, but if a person eats like half a killo a day that makes them bad cause you should eat food as medicine or gonna habe to eat medicine like food later on
hmmm yeah but why would I want 10 teaspoons of sugar just because it tastes good? It’s not healthy, it doesn’t matter if you burn it off afterwards. Empty calories can’t never be good. I don’t say don’t have one once in a while. Just don’t go and eat them on a daily basis thinking they’re healthy when it’s the total opposite.
Ok, what you say is true but i have two things to say about it. 1; natural selection 2; each people is responsable for his habits. If i were obese, i would be twice as responsable for what i eat. If not, then i will stay obese and die twice as fast. A bit cruel but people must face consequences for their acts.
Thats because as doki said, yes muffins are powerfull.. and expect ppl from 5 yr old to any age to watch this.. and anykind of ppl as well.. over reacting is all over too, the info here i found very good info, it dont mean u wouldnt have another muffin in ur life pfft… id say muffins made them dumb (jk).
Alternatively I could just eat nothing. That would mean 0.00 Calories per day! Does this women even know what the term “calorie” even means? Calories are the measuring unit for the energy you are running on (fat, sugar and proteins), and if you don´t get enough of each of them (fat too) you will die.
Pfff, well, that’s American muffins. You guys make everything over the top. I bake muffins at home and mine (I have calculated) hardly ever exceed 200kcal. I just make a batch and freeze most of them, and then pop one in the microwave oven when I don’t have time to make breakfast. Also, skinny self-righteous bimbo. -_-
45 years they wanted to cut most of my intestines basically out, I had severe diverticulitis, a doctor from INDIA, said you are to young for me to cut most of intestines out. He recommended that I take Psyllium husk’s, I started with 4 tablespoons a day, after about 20 years, I went down to 3 tablespoons a day, then down to 2 tablespoons a day, I know take 1 tablespoon per day, have not missed a day in 45 years, saved me surgery and probably my life, and rarely have constipation. And to this day I WATCH WHAT I EAT. I never smoked, and have not drink in 51 years, and I just turned 82, AND I exercise, don’t run anymore, but walk 1-2 miles everyday.
As always, it’s a pleasure learning from your articles, Dr. Berg. Taking just a teaspoon of Ispaghol (psyllium) a day in water dramatically improved my sugar and cholesterol levels, along with other minor lifestyle changes such as diet and regular exercise. One thing I wish to add though is that taking psyllium with water straight away can be very disturbing to the digestive system causing bloating, cramps and even constipation. For this reason, many people in Pakistan and India soak psyllium in a bowl of water for eight hours before consuming. Basically, in the morning I put a teaspoon of psyllium in a bowl, add a glass of water and stir well, and then cover with a saucer. About 8 hours later and 30min before dinner you will see it having turned into a thick gel-like liquid. Give it a few stirs and drink before dinner. If you want even better results mix in a teaspoon of olive oil into the bowl before drinking. It’s a game changer for sure. Wishing everyone good health and happiness.
I tried this for lowering my cholesterol, after about 4 months, my cholesterol was down 10% from 229 to 109. I just took 1 tsp per day of psyllium (not Metamucil as it has all kinds of other stuff in it). Plus, I’ve had all the other benefits 😉 I just measured out 7 grams and it’s just under 1 tablespoon. We appreciate it when you add amounts!
Thank you Dr Berg. I tried psyllium husk and I definitely had great results. Before taking it I wasn’t even aware that I was constipated. After taking it I was like wow that is how it should be then 🙂 Much softer, bigger and easy stools. This is how I take it. I mix 20-25 gr of psy with water (room temp) and drink every morning. I use the powder form. Put the powder into glass, add water (250-300 ml), stir it fast, drink it immediately after stirring. Dont wait for a second, if you wait powder absorbs all the water and becomes jelly. I also drink another glass of plain water afterwards. Try to drink more water during the day, since psy husk is absorbing more water from your body when doing its job.
Hi Dr. Berg, I find frustration because you have many articles that advise which vitamins and supplements to take. All the lists are different. Here is an idea for a article: • A comprehensive list of all vitamins/ Minerals/ Supplements necessary. You could have 2nor 3 lists, 1.) All necessary vitamins/ Minerals/ Supplements, 2.) Minimum and maximum amounts. I want to utilize just below the maximum in starting out, 3.) Important supplements to focus on to fulfill multiple requirements, (e.g.; Nutritional Yeast fulfills multiple Vitamin B requirements), 4.) Vegetable fulfillments, (Separate article?), A comprehensive list of vegetables and percentage of each nutrient per oz., or other unit. I am trying to revisit certain articles, Wade through some articles repeating nutrients, some having completely different nutrients… I am a member. I paid for a year. I have barely used it these many months. I started, … . I started to get on Keto. I was sent to articles that taught me beginners concepts, like don’t lose weight to lose weight, eat healthy. It’s like signing 9n to a Calculus class, and having classes, “1 + 1 = 2, 1 + 2 = 3, 1 + 2 = 3, 1 + 3 = 4, …” I don’t want to take a course in remedial nutrition, I want the advanced keto and OMAD, concicely and thoroughly, and organized, not some vitamins in chapter 2, others in chapter 4, extras in chapter 10. All vitamins in one section.
Look, I like fried cutlets (chicken, turkey, beef, pork, whatever) and scratched my head over replacing the breading. Found that a spoon of psyllium and a spoon of ground flax seed with (coconut, almond, quinoa) flour worked very well, and the herbs and spices covered any difference in flavours. Also, it’s nice sometimes to stir a dollop into a mug of hot water in the morning, and sip it while catching up on news. Keep a spoon handy to stir, though.
In Pakistan every house has this. But now I found out we were curing few issues and causing some more issues same time. Such as not taking enough water. Gas problem. Iron deficiency. Also in constipation some people consume this as a cure but now I got it why they end up in more problems. Thanks doctor for such a informative article!
I took psylliym husk(3g) with yogurt for 7 days. And i started noticing seriouse muscle atrophy. Acutally 3~4 weeks ago i got food poisoning. So at first i thought it may be because of it. But my muscle atrophy got so severe. My butt is almost gone almost 1/4 size. My ankle, my elbow, my back, my foot pad muscles are gone, but strength is almost same, just muscles are seriously gone. I took pause of taking psyllium husk today and rendering what’s the cause of my issue. Muscle atrophy often took place behind the bone, esp butt. They has maybe more like fat character, to soften bone from any impact. This is real time. Hope next day will get better. I am experiencing lose sphincter, too. I guess That’s maybe because of mass fat loss disturbing estrogen. In retrospect, i had very poor sleep in those 7 days. I also have to assume that psyllium disturbs hormone(estrogen).
It needs to be 100% mixed in water. If not you might get a wet lump that is dry in the middle. This could latch on somewhere in your digestive system. It might then burst, releasing the dry insides that will swell and form a blockage. It won’t last for life, but it might give some discomfort next day or two.
I am new to the 18/6 IMF meal arrangement and I noticed I’m eating less fiber foods. So I now take psyllium husk capsules and progressed from 1 to 3 capsules 1st thing in the morning. Since I take so many supplements I’ve been told to take the psyllium 2 hrs before or 2 hours after taking medications. It’s difgicult to juggle between different medication times and the psyllium so 1st thing when I wake up is best for me.
Dr berg in a previous article you recommended against psyllium husk where u cited a study that found it causes colon polyps a pre-cursor to colon cancer. Has that position changed because i stopped using the product based on your article, has your position now subsequently changed because the husk worked great for hemorrhoids but your article scared me can you please clarify for me
the dosage on a bag i bought said 1 tablespoon and take it 3 times a day I am sure they just said that so i have to buy it more often. That would be very unpleasant to have to drink it 3 times a day and a tablespoon of psyllium would need at least 1 litre of water for it not to end up a coagulated blob. only take one teaspoon a day and I notice a difference so i stick to that
Do you have to take it separate from other food supplements or medication? I’d imagine it could absorb some of those if taken simultaneously, lowering the effects of other supplements? Sidenote: I got hold of a couple of bottles of Psyllium Husk with 90 capsules of 625 mg each. Apparently you’re supposed to take one pr. day. Been suspecting the dosage being far too low. Which I now realize was useless, unless I gobbled up 11-12 every day, running through the bottle in like a week.
I have one question sir I have stage 2 hemorrhoids do our body get tolerate for fibres when we are consuming for long periods of time I mean when I am taking it for long no much benefits I can get from it same dehydrate stool again but when I stop taking husk for a week and start it again it is giving best results to me again why this problem I am facing I smoke (I take nicotine snuss and weed and a lot of caffien and cold rinks too I know it all cause me a lot dehydration) what to do
Dr.Berg I really want to ask you something about Keto. I ve been doing OMAD keto for 7 days now,I dont have cravings which is great and i can see changes in my body. But please can you tell me why I have headache and I dont have so much energy? All my OMADS are keto food which I found recipe on YouTube and internet. I dont know what’s wrong
Why don’t you tell us what a daily dose is in understandable dosage terms, like teaspoons or tablespoons instead of making us go and look up what would be so easy for you to tell us….after all we Are the patients …..and this is Your article. Not a good feeling to make me want to come back and listen to more when there are so many others to choose from posting the same thing👋.
Dr Berg, all that people will be eating and stocking up on is pasta, rice, grains, bread etc for weeks/months due to the corona virus pandemic. They are not eating or buying veggies as they go bad quickly amd not practical. Please make a article on the effect of this as I think the results will show on a mass level. Also please make a article on how we can prepare for the virus and self quarantining while staying keto?
Hello Doctor I received your product (vitamine D3 & K2). It is really great, but doctor, when I eat it in breakfast with olive oil, I improve by 80% because I have calcium deposited in the salivary glands area, which causes me to swell in that area and thus my face changes slightly when swelling, but when I take vitamins that goes The swelling disappears but is not complete and when I wake up in the morning I find the salivary glands swollen again which means that calcium is deposited again knowing that my vitamin D level is 20.8. (Not enough) And I want to know, Doctor, where is the problem, is it in vitamins or poor absorption? I want the bulge to go away permanently and my face to look normal. thank you Doctor.
Gluten and cigarettes. What if people are claiming that cigarettes behaves like psyllium husk when it behaves like gluten? What if the gluten is the same as the misrepresentation of education differences between cultures of private nurses and their research projects. Like, the nootropics of psyllium husk are specific neurology health location modifiers despite being able to be taken in various ways. The gluten makes it move the psyllium husk regions and not be as specific. The ear nose and throat regarding the schizophrenia when the medical science is stating general surgeon education and researchers actively participating in examples of education and licenses that don’t prove how gluten from tobacco is the health care medicine for overdose’s of nootropics. It would look like entertainment industry and liberal roleplaying fictionalizing work because of how they are counteracting rehabilitation as well as health care insurance. Psyllium husk degree and people given free education updates of records with the information publicized. Like while their intentions of conduct were being defined, they were corrected and it conceals the incorrect answers like they are supporting the health care insurance decision publicly. It could be a didactic proof of conflict and concerns about the various forms of seizures and medical facilitation research projects. Like, proof that people lied about their medicines or medicines they took or sold or something like that and now they are being treated but it is not benefitting them due to the incorrect answers giving reason for the treatments currently.
