To lower your chances of experiencing stomach issues on hot days, take steps to avoid the drink, such as drinking it before bed and avoiding direct sun exposure.

Sun poisoning can lead to severe blistering, loss of fluid and electrolytes, and even death. To prevent heat exhaustion and heatstroke, avoid the sun between 11am and 3pm, drink plenty of cold drinks, take cool showers or baths, and wear light-colored loose clothing. A batch of Capri Sun pouches containing a cleaning solution that could cause an upset stomach has been recalled after consumers complained about the drink’s taste.

Sugary diarrhea is a normal reaction of the gut, where sugar that is not absorbed has to pull water with it on the way out. To relieve diarrhea, drink flavored water, such as Roaring Waters from Capri Sun, which may cause excess water to pull into the gut, giving soft poops or a touch of diarrhea. Be cautious with commercial sports drinks, which can contain large amounts of sugar that can make diarrhea worse.

Fructose, artificial sweeteners, and lactose are part of a group of poorly digested sugars that can cause diarrhea, known as FODMAPs. It is important to be aware of the potential risks associated with the Capri Sun product and to seek medical advice if you experience symptoms related to the drink.

Is Capri-Sun actually 100% juice?

Fruit Juice. Depending on the flavour, we use a finely balanced mix of fruit juices. The fruit juice content of the Original Capri-Sun is usually around 10 – 12%. Apart from the vitamins that we add into our Multivitamin variety, all of which come from natural sources, it is the naturally occurring vitamins in our fruit that infuses our drinks with vitamins.

Sugar. The sugar used in our Original Capri-Sun not only sweetens our fruit juice drink but it also enhances and deepens the natural fruit flavour and helps to preserve our drink naturally. Capri-Sun has been on a sugar reduction journey since we first hit the shelves in 1969. Most 200 ml pouches contain less than 8. 8 grams of sugar per 100ml : that is less than an equivalent drink of pure fruit juice.

Stevia. In a few markets, we have further reduced the sugar content of our Original Capri-Sun range by using a sweetener from a natural source: Stevia (or steviol glycosides). This is extracted from the leaves of the stevia plant. It contains no calories and offers a sweetness that is as much as 300 times more powerful than sugars.

Do Capri-Sun pouches go bad?

Our juice drink is preservative free, which means it can go bad if it’s exposed to air. The juice will first start to ferment and later mould will start to grow. This is a natural process that affects the taste and consistency of the juice drink and isn’t harmful to your health. However, we do not recommend drinking it.

If the fruit juice is exposed to fresh air, naturally occurring mould can develop because our juice drink doesn’t contain artificial preservatives. This can happen if the pouch is punctured or compromised on the way from our facilities to the grocery store. Even if the hole is so small that you can barely see it, it exposes the drink to air, which causes mould to grow. The same happens to a fresh fruit – if the skin is punctured, mould will start to grow.

If there is mould in the pouch, it is naturally occurring and not harmful. It’s therefore unlikely to make you sick. However, if you show any symptoms, consult a doctor.
