The liver is responsible for the metabolism and storage of nutrients, vitamins, fats, protein, and carbohydrates. It can be affected by infections or other factors, and certain foods, such as high-fat and fried foods, sugary foods, alcohol, and refined carbohydrates, can harm the liver. Elevated liver enzymes can indicate liver problems, but a balanced diet and regular exercise can help lower enzyme levels. Bananas, a storehouse of vitamin B6, C, and A, are also high in these nutrients. Refined sugars, fructose, and high-fructose corn syrup can increase the risk of liver disease. Bananas are not harmful to individuals with fatty liver disease, but they can be beneficial in a balanced diet.
For those with fatty liver, it is recommended to add at least 200g of fresh ripe fruit and 300g of green vegetables per day to support effective recovery. Over time, the liver becomes overwhelmed by high levels of fat entering it from the bloodstream and diet, leading to fat storage in liver cells. A more plant-based diet is generally better for insulin functioning and weight loss.

Eat too many foods that are high in saturated fat and it can make it harder for your liver to do its job. Over time it may lead to inflammation, which in turn could cause scarring of the liver that’s known as cirrhosis.
Food with lots of fiber can help your liver work at its best. Want one that’s a great way to start your day? Try oatmeal. Research shows it can help you shed some extra pounds and belly fat, which is a good way to keep away liver disease.

Some studies suggest this crunchy food can help protect you from nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. If steamed broccoli sounds a little too blah, shred it into a slaw and toss it with sliced almonds, dried cranberries, and a tangy vinaigrette. It’s also delicious roasted with garlic and a splash of balsamic vinegar.

When ALT and AST Levels Are Tested. ALT and AST are part of a comprehensive panel of tests known as a liver function test (LFT). An LFT may be ordered:
- If you have symptoms of liver disease, including jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), dark urine, pale stools, nausea, vomiting, and fatigue

📹 Health Experts Say Don’t Eat Too Many Bananas (THAT’S A BIG LIE) – Dr Alan Mandell, D.C.
Contradictory Media Messages About Nutrition Confuse People: Is Anyone Surprised? Kindly share this video on your social …
I have been eating bananas all my life . Now I am over 86 years old and Ihave been reasonably heathy up to now and have never been ill, and therefore I must agree with Dr. Mandell and must thank him for removing any confusion about bananas in my mind as to whether Ishould go on having banans as part of daily food but I eat only two bananas a day.. So thank you Dr. Mandell.
I am a 68 year old Filipino, I’ve been eating bananas ever since I was a young kid, and up to this day I still do it with no limits, when I go hungry in the evening I just eat banana before going to bed, my cholesterol is normal and so as my blood sugar, I always keep bananas in my refrigerator,
Thank you for clarifying the lies about bananas. Years ago I use to have high blood pressure, and a coworker told me t eat bananas. I started eating bananas on a daily basis since then and I do not suffer from high blood pressure anymore. I eat at least 2 to 3 bananas daily and my granddaughter calls me a monkey because I love eating bananas.
We grew up in the island, eating green banana as potato and ripe banana as fruit. So thank you deeply doctor for reminding making us aware that what we grew up eating was purely a gift from God. We never go to doctor when we have a cold or flu its all cure with plant and natural medicine, made from plant. I am 58 years old and only have lost one tooth and its only because of change in our diet.
Good to hear. I find myself on a hot subtropical island with many varieties of bananas, jungle bananas, finger bananas, red bananas, and they are ubiquitous to society and economical. So, I just eat a lot of them cooked and raw. In India, I actually took my breakfast amongst the monkeys and I shared my bananas with them. They were thin skinned bananas, baked in the sun, unctuous, creamy, meaty, satisfying. Baking in the sun made them actually feel like you were eating banana bread. They had tints or orange in them. The monkeys ate the banana skins, as well as the cows. People just dropped the skins after eating the fruit, and within seconds, an animal would delight in the skins. Bananas outside of the imported low quality rubbery skinned Cavendish variety are more organic and consuming them feels like you had a real meal.
I ate lots of bananas everyday since the age of six, as I grew up in the fruits plantation in Malaysia. Even today at the age of 61, I ate atleast 4 to 7 pieces everyday, starting to eat them after my one half hour workout in the gym from 7 am. My last banana meal is at 7 pm hihi.. I am as fit as a younger guy at the age of 30, build muscles and can even have the urge of making love nearly everyday. You are awesome, tq Dr..
You have told the truth. I have been taking two bananas a day for forty years. It is highly nutritiou and healthy snack. It will reduce high BP and ulcer. It is high in pottassium and magnesium. It has helped me stay in good health. It gives you energy and required natural sugar. And not the artificial sugar. But you should avoid polished rice and sugar and that is very important!.
Good Morning Dr Mandel happy blessings to you for the new year I look forward to hearing you every day thank you for your help to us all around the world by teaching us how to take care of our health I have learn so much and still learning I am so honored to have you give motivation to everyone I can not thank you enough thank you for talking about the Banana it is so helpful to know may you a blessed day always
Thanks Doc, you ARE da man. You lightly touched on one aspect. While everyone IS different, nanas are a Godsend. When the back door is loose (Diarrhea), just one is the ticket. I tried Immodium once, I couldn’t pass the cynder block it built in me, yet one banana acts pretty quickly and with perfect balance to my system. Forget the OTC meds, nature is ALWAYS the best way to go. Besides, this fruit is tasty too.
I eat bananas every day for breakfast with oatmeal and in the evenings. I keep bananas that have ripened in the freezer to make ice cream. I mix coco powder with melted coconut oil and stevia and drizzle over the banana ice cream with a few blueberries and shredded coconut. So yummy. Ripe bananas on healthy toasted bread taste like cake to me. So inexpensive as well!! What can you buy for 69 cents a pound these days that taste so good?!?
Definitely, love bananas. Gonna eat them once a day now . Thank you for the advice and the great articles. Keep them coming . We need more people like you Dr. Mandel . Thank you for taking the time to care . I’ll definitely tell my friends and family to subscribe to your website. Information is power .
I am a naturopath and keep healthy without medications for many many years. What pains me is that people are becoming too materialistic and are trying to make money by hook or by crook with stupid articles. There are self proclaimed health experts who tell you not to eat this and not to eat that and in the end you find that you will die of starvation if you follow their instructions. My humble advice 1) enjoy fresh air and some sunshine whenever possible. 2) eat a balanced diet, more fruits n vegetables, grains, seeds all natural foods. If you’re ill go in for salads. Less oil, salt, sweets etc. Enough water to drink. 3) exercise as much as you can, even in bed or better still take part in sports. 4) sleep well 8 hours or more. 5) take care of your mental health . Meditation, read better-yourself books. Keep cheerful. Be enthusiastic . Start a new hobby or learn a new language etc. Make good friends. For years I’ve been eating 8 bananas a day. 2 after every meal. Sometimes when I go out away from home I have a meal of fresh fruits only.
I have eaten two banana’s daily since I was a toddler, I have always loved them and I am now 72yrs young, banana’s are a wonder food and cheap enough for all, a banana butty is good filler for children who want a quick snack and a much better choice than sweets! or as an evening meal that’s when I normally ate them in the days following the war when we didn’t have many foods to choose from or the money to spend and to this day I still enjoy my daily banana’s lovely taste, fast cheap meal and so good for us, Thank you Dr Mandell ❤❤❤
Thank you, Dr. Alan Mandell, for your enlightening article on bananas! Your thorough explanation of their benefits has filled me with gratitude and confidence in incorporating this nutritious fruit into my diet. Your positive energy and dedication to educating others are truly commendable. Keep spreading the goodness!
I have liked the few topics that you have spoken about that I have listened to, Kudos. Your manner of speaking is easy to follow and understand. The information on eggs and bananas was very insightful. And to touch on a statement you made about cravings ( in conjunction with your statement about how the mind is smart about what the body needs and wants and the management of the body functions), for all of the people out there. Every person has had a craving that was so strong that they would eat any and everything they could get into their mouths trying to satisfy the craving, and sooner or later either through accumulation of everything consumed or finally finding what it is to satisfy the craving. Well this craving was the brain trying to inform the body of what was needed to correct an imbalance in the body, and sometimes the person goes straight to the source needed but unfortunately it is a wondering route to the needed source to appease the craving. Although it is hard for humans to listen to their own bodies ( because we are inherently lazy ), paying attention to our cravings and to what satisfies the cravings can and will lessen stress upon our body and lives. Keep up the good work.
I love bananas, but apparently it seems that I’m coming allergic to them. Can you let me know, how I can stop it. Because, I want to continue eating them. I love your advices; as well as, your exercises. In all, I love you; I want you to be my real doctor, please take care of you, and your family. God bless you, and your love ones. Thank you for everything.❤ ❤
I believe that we are all different in the way we process foods. I love bananas to the point that I was eating up to three almost every day. After pre diabetes I discovered (checked my BG) that bananas were spiking me really bad (not to say that it was the bananas fault only but it is a not so friendly food for me). I almost cried, but a sacrifice needed to be made. I stop eating them for a while. My numbers are fine now, but I would not dare to eat more than half of a banana every now and then. Some of the people that comment here are exercising quite a bit, so eat your bananas. I also exercise, but I do not have time to do it every day. Excuse me dear doctor, but I am not going to totally agree on this one. I would advise people to check and verify how many if any they can eat without a hitch. If you can, go ahead eat as many as you please. I know for a fact some of us cannot. Now, kiwis I can eat more without much of a problems, also berries in moderation but daily. Also a small apple, oranges. Another thing, regardless of eating bananas and other toted cholesterol lowering foods frequently my LDL has always been elevated. No worries, my other #s always perfect regardless of pre diabetes. Green banana does not affect me too much. I am not giving a like on this one.
Thank You Dr Mandell:virtualhug:I had started a keto diet and was happily eating banana and an apple I felt good then I read the keto list and it said absolutely no banana s or apple. so i stopped for about a week. I did not feel good, ate a banana and felt better. Then I saw your article bananas are good Oh Happy day:):):)🍌🐒💕
Thanks dr for the information on bananas….its really helpful & genuine ….i was kind of confused on eating bananas because so many people including drs talk not to eat or have not more than 1 or 2 daily bananas in diet….u have cleared the doubts….god bless u & keep up the great work ….thanks dr
Thank you for your articles. I too haven’t eaten as many bananas as i should because of so many people on tv and books saying they are too high in sugar. I knew they had to be heathy because God made them! I’m gonna eat more bananas (better than a cookie or candy bar…lol). Whatever foods you eat, Doc, your skin is soooo smooth, no wrinkles! You don’t seem to age.
I take the inside of the banana peel and smooth it over my face and it helps. I also use it in place of cucumber slices. I lay it on both eyes the same way you use cucumber. My skin and eyes feel refreshed. I like to use organic bananas if they’re available. If not I rinse the skin off on the outside first to get the pesticides off. Then I peel off the skin and use it.
Hi Dr. I had serious intestinal diahrea, because I also got weak, I lost my job . And lost 6 lbs. Finally I went to Dr.had all the test run for c diff e coli parasites…had none of these things . The Dr. Kalani told me my potassium was extremely low . So I had to take 80mg. 2 days and eat 3 bananas a day after…I feel wonderful now, no diahrea, no heart pulpitation . It’s more like I’m counting potassium instead of calories .
I like bananas and I’ve always eaten them but lately I’m unsure if they are healthy or not because I’ve awoken to the fact the producers have changed more and more of our fruits to seedless, including the banana which was changed many years ago. I’m pretty sure seeded fruits/fertile fruits are much more healthy then these sterile fruits they are producing today! I want a nice juicy fertile watermelon with seeds, please!
I grew up in a place where there is a large commercial banana plantation, and we had lots of banana plants on our own property. We ate lots of bananas growing up, as we grew our family members were overweight, I stopped eating bananas and pineapples, other fruits and lowered my weight to the normal level. We lived in semi rural area and all we had abundantly were bananas. different varieties.
Thank you Doctor Manell I love bananas so grateful for your articles and how to stay healthy we love you doctor Mandell May the Lord to continue to bless you for sharing your love and knowledge to help us to be healthy I don’t go to doctors or take any drugs only time i go to doctor is for my medical drivers certificate my health is my wealth thank you so much
Yes, it is getting to point now days with health articles trying to steer allot of people in the wrong direction in what is bad for us and they claim to be Doctors. I do eat mostly whole foods, not processed. I do eat 2 bananas a week along with other fruits and vegetables. I try to stay away from allot of sugary items and don’t eat allot of breads anymore. Mainly for weight control, I am not Diabetic. I think the bad thing that some doctors bring up is if you are Diabetic, bananas can raise our blood sugar levels. So I think that is the one main reason not to eat bananas for some people. Thanks for your article.
Hye Dr… I’m an egg lover. I’ve been eating eggs since I was childhood until today with 4,5 or 6 daily. But my cholesterol is perfect. And also love banana so much. But I have stopped eating Bananas bcoz too high of sugar and so on… most of the Dr said this. TQ for the information. And I’m suffering the anxiety disorders and consuming the anxiety pills(REMERON).
❤ love from Quebec Canada, 68 yr. Old female been a fan for a long time. I watch the shorts a little knowledge goes a long way. I ‘m currently dealing with the worst pain left side of head from neck to base of skull to corner of head. Had scan few days ago awaiting results . Back from Fl. In Feb. this year and reading was not great in left eye. I saw all the Dr’s from optometrist, ophthalmologist, retina specialist. I currently switched my fish oil (NutraSea) to Artic cod liver oil ? .for the vitamin question 🙋♀️ was this a better choice in regards to Vitamin A. Dr.retina said I have a membrane over left eye which impairs 1/3 of vision. Slight pressure found pulling on eye. Need glasses for distance, done! I’ve done you neck and skull exercises, sometimes that does the trick for these nasty headaches. Love all your podcasts and shorts, your explanations are much appreciated. Thank you for sharing you gift 💝
I was in hospital as an impatient waiting on blood work. When it came back my potassium levels were dangerously high. I was asked what I was eating and told them which included 2 bananas a day. Was told this was too much and that I was lucky they saw it in the blood work or it could of been fatal. So I just buy one cut it in 3 pieces and eat over 3 days in some yoghurt with blueberries.
I love my bananas I eat two or three in the morning frozen blend them up with my good powder and my pomegranate put green, vibrant and moringa yogurt little milk and cream. It’s like ice cream. I absolutely love it and I got a lot of goodness in it. I love bananas and I think they’re good for you.🥰❤️
twenty years ago I had a triple by pass heart surgery, afterword the dr. said see if you can eat a banana a day! I asked him why, and he said there high in potassium which is good for your heart. “IM still this side of the flowers! at 76.!. Everyone is different. I don’t argue with anyone blaming banana for their problems. But as for me the banana does wonders in my stomach. After suffering from IBS for years of constipation, bloating, indigestion, gastritis, etc. but now I’m relieved thanks to these bananas others scorn! I tried different fruits and veggies, but always had to take laxatives before bowel movements. A poop once in a week was even difficult. But now thanks to banana i poop everyday. Hallelujah!!!! Bananas are too good!
Dr. I was told many years ago that an ingredient from bananas was used in meds to stop diarrhea. I myself haven’t been able to eat a whole banana for over 30 years. Hate it but if I do I won’t visit the bathroom for 3 days. That’s murder. I am conflicted now, it’s opposite of what your saying. I love banana and now, after viewing this, want it even more. Thanks for your reply, in advance
I know upon the health benefits of bananas too, but in my experience there will exist the risk at least of a constipation, possibly of an intestinal obstruction. The easiest manner to prevent this one in a natural manner will be to swallow regularly early in the morning on an empty stomach 1 tablespoons (= 15 ml) castor oil.
I buy bananas in a bunch 3 of course, let it ripe and throw it in the freezer. so when I need to eat a ripe banana, just pop one or two in the microwave and defrost it. cut it up and eat it for breakfast or whenever I have pain from drinking turmeric for pain, u know. He has the heart of a basketball, and I don’t mean enlargement, i mean he is so compassionate doctor.
I love bananas, I eat it everyday, actually I always have plantain banana at night before we go sleep, I half it for me and for my husband, we sleep good, but when I have my blood check, my blood sugar was high and I told my doctor what I was eating, he told me not to eat banana before bed, always eat banana daytime, and eat plantain before dinner, and slowly my blood sugar went down.

Hello 👋 Dr Mandell great info 😊I love bananas 🍌 and I always gave them to my kids, but my young kid was having an allergy reaction to it, he will tell me that he’s throat would close on him, like he couldn’t swallow, I thought he was telling me that because he didn’t want to eat them, and I always told them bananas is a great snack, so one day I was late coming home from work and I told him eat a banana while I finish cooking and so he did and he couldn’t talk he’s throat was swollen, i was ready to take to the Hospital but he stopped me by telling me that it will go away, I replied by saying I’m so sorry 😢 I didn’t believe you, when you told me you couldn’t eat them, I never knew anybody in my life that was allergic to bananas, he was 11 year old, and never ate bananas again of course, but he can’t eat nothing that have bananas in it, I feel so bad for him, because he wants to, and like you said doctor there’s a lot of things that you can make with bananas, make a great day and God Bless you and momma Amen !🙏❤️🙌🙌

Nothing wrong with bananas! I grew up on bananas. Sometimes ten a day and nothing happened to me. My great grandmother was 102, grandma was 92 and grandfather was 85 and was still planting in the field when he died. Banana is good for blood pressure because of the potassium. They need to quit their crop!!
