Loperamide is used in the dog so is not toxic to them per se. It is dosed at up to 0. 04 mg per pound of your dog’s body weight so the top dose for a 15 pound dog would be ( 15 x 0. 04 ) = 0. 6 mg. So the 2 mg he did swallow is unfortunately an overdose. Adverse effects are possible and could include vomiting and abdominal cramping, depression, diarrhea, and weakness. 2. What should you do about it? : After two hours it is now too late to induce vomiting to recover this tablet and adverse effects are possible so the best advice is to get your dog to an ER vet without delay. In this sort of situation IV fluids would normally be given for support together with drugs to protect the intestinal tract and maintain it’s motility.
