Diarrhea is often associated with the belief that it can “clean out” the digestive system. However, most episodes of diarrhea are temporary and will likely resolve on their own after a few days. Diarrhea plays a crucial role in clearing bacteria found in the intestines at the beginning of an infection. Many people believe they have emptied their colons after multiple episodes of diarrhea or that they can keep their colons empty by avoiding bowel movements. Diarrhea usually occurs due to infections caused by the small or large intestine. Diarrhea involves passing watery, loose stools three or more times in a day, and the digestion process becomes too fast. Detoxing the body through bowel movements can make you feel lighter, but it only gets rid of feces and liquids. Diarrhea does not cleanse the colon; it is typically a sign of infection or another underlying issue and can lead to dehydration and other symptoms. Small and frequent bowel movements often indicate left colon or rectal disease, while voluminous stools usually indicate small bowel or right colon disease.

Is it OK not to poop after diarrhea?
While experiencing constipation after diarrhea is uncommon, it is not usually a cause for concern. Often, a person has a stomach bug or has eaten something their body has trouble digesting.
However, it is important to pay attention to any other symptoms that may develop. Anyone who experiences severe symptoms or symptoms that last for several days should see a doctor.
A person should also see a doctor if they experience certain symptoms, including continuous pain, bloody stools, and regular fatigue.
Lengthy bouts of constipation may lead to impacted stools that are extremely hard to pass. This may lead to complications, such as hemorrhoids or tears in the anus skin from too much strain. In some cases, the stool may become too difficult to pass at all.
Is diarrhea a detox symptom?
5. Nausea, Vomiting and Diarrhea. As your body readjusts to a new normal, all of your systems can experience symptoms, including your digestive system. Nausea, vomiting and diarrhea are all common symptoms of alcohol and drug detox as your body tries to regulate what you’re now putting into your system versus what you have in the past.
Other Common Symptoms of Detox. Depending on the severity of your detox, your body can experience various symptoms throughout the process.
Aside from the five most common symptoms, you may also experience:
What does diarrhea take away from your body?
When the cells in your small intestine or colon are irritated, the relaxed and regular movement of your intestines can become overactive. Essential salts and fluids, as well as nutrients from the food that you eat, end up being passed through the colon too quickly. With less fluid being absorbed by the body, the result is loose or watery stools, which is more commonly known as diarrhea.
Types of Diarrhea. Types of diarrhea vary from mild and acute to persistent, chronic, and severe diarrhea 2.
Acute Diarrhea. Acute diarrhea is a common issue and should not last more than 14 days. Like any type of diarrhea, it is defined by the sudden onset of loose stools 3 or more times a day.
Does diarrhea wipe out gut bacteria?
Millions of friendly bacteria live in your intestines, and they’re important for your digestion. But diarrhea can throw the microbes in your gut off balance. Probiotics may help get things back on track.
You can find probiotics in certain foods, like yogurt, and they also come in the form of supplements. Not all probiotics can ease diarrhea, though, and some help only certain types of diarrhea. So which ones can help, and when?
Kids and Diarrhea. Some of the best proof that probiotics work comes from studies of diarrhea in children, especially when it’s caused by rotavirus. Probiotics might cut bouts of infectious diarrhea by half a day to about 2 days.
Some research shows that the bacteria strains most likely to help are Lactobacillus reuteri, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, and the probiotic yeast Saccharomyces boulardii, although other strains might be useful. A mix of a few different probiotics may also treat this type of diarrhea.
What does diarrhea actually do?
Malabsorption. Diarrhea may cause malabsorption. If people do not absorb enough nutrients from the food they eat, they may become malnourished. Certain conditions that cause chronic diarrhea—such as infections, food allergies and intolerances, and certain digestive tract problems—may also cause malabsorption. See a list of the symptoms of malabsorption.

How do I know if my colon is full of poop?
The symptoms of fecal impaction include:Constipation. Discomfort and abdominal pain. Inability to eat. Frequent urination.
What is fecal impaction?. Fecal impaction is the result of severe constipation, when you’re unable to regularly pass poop (stool or feces) and it backs up inside your large intestine (colon). Fecal impaction can also be defined by your inability to sense and respond to the presence of stool in your rectum.
Who does fecal impaction affect?. Fecal impaction occurs in all age groups but is most common in:
- The elderly.
- Children.
- People who have mobility issues.
- People with neuropsychiatric disorders including Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and dementia.
What happens to your bowels when you have diarrhea?
Diarrhea means having a loose, watery stool during a bowel movement. It’s common in both children and adults and usually goes away on its own within a few days.
How is diarrhea treated?. Usually, you can get rid of diarrhea at home. Over-the-counter (OTC) medicines for diarrhea, like bismuth subsalicylate (Pepto-Bismol® or Kaopectate®), often help people feel better quickly. You’ll need to see a healthcare provider for diarrhea that doesn’t improve or that happens alongside symptoms of severe diarrhea.
- Antibiotics or antiparasitics. These drugs kill infection-causing germs.
- Medications that treat chronic conditions. Treating underlying conditions that cause diarrhea, like inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and IBS, can help.
- Probiotics. Probiotics introduce good bacteria into your gut to combat diarrhea. Your healthcare provider may suggest you try them. Always talk to your provider before starting a probiotic or any supplement.
Can I stop diarrhea without taking anti-diarrhea medicine?. You can often get rid of acute diarrhea through lifestyle changes you can make at home.
How do I completely empty my bowels?
How to empty your bowels without strainingSit on the toilet properly: … Brace – allow your stomach muscles to push forwards. … With each urge to empty your bowels, repeat the brace. Keep your mouth slightly open and breathe out. … As you finish, pull up your anorectal muscles (the muscles that control your bottom).
What are bowels?. Your bowels make up part of your lower digestive tract and consist of your intestines, rectum and anus (bottom).
Your rectum is where stools (poo) are stored. Your brain sends messages to your rectum when it is full and needs to be emptied.
Benefits of good bowel health. Emptying your bowels easily is an important part of good bowel health and can help keep the muscles that control your bowels active and strong.
Does diarrhea flush out bacteria?
Diarrhea is one of the least pleasant parts of dealing with a stomach bug. But according to a new Brigham and Women’s Hospital study published in Cell Host and Microbe, it’s a blessing in disguise: You’re essentially pooping out the bacteria that made you sick.
Does diarrhea empty your bowels completely?
Many people believe they have emptied out their colons after multiple episodes of diarrhea or that they can keep their colons empty by avoiding food. However, since stool is made up in large part of bacteria, fecal matter is continuously being formed.
- Bacteria
- Liquid
- Undigested food
- Dietary fiber
- Fat
- Minerals
- Protein
It’s the colon’s job to complete the process of digestion. Its main purpose is to absorb water and electrolytes from the material passed from the small intestine. This material is then formed into a stool that can be passed during the process of a bowel movement.
Does diarrhea help clear your bowels?
Diarrhea is a common symptom of various health conditions, including acute and chronic forms. It is often considered a self-limiting condition, as it is not always clear why it started or how it was resolved on its own. Factors contributing to diarrhea include food poisoning, infection, food allergies or intolerance, medication, stress, and other health problems.
Food poisoning is a common cause of diarrhea, particularly in developing countries where contaminated food or water sources can lead to bacteria, viruses, parasites, or other microbes. Infections, such as viral infections, are the most common cause of acute diarrhea, with strains like Salmonella, E. coli, and Shigella being involved. Food allergies or intolerance are genetically predisposed individuals who may have an abnormal immune response to certain foods or ingredients.
Medications, such as antibiotics, can unintentionally disturb the balance of beneficial bacteria in the digestive tract, sometimes killing helpful bacteria in addition to harmful ones. Stress can also cause diarrhea by affecting the gut-brain axis, which connects the central nervous system and the enteric nervous system. When neurotransmitters travel along this pathway to the gut, they can increase bowel movement in the large intestine, leading to diarrhea. Stress can also affect the muscles in the bowels and intestines, which can affect the ability of intestines to filter out harmful gut bacteria.
Other health conditions that may include diarrhea include irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), which usually manifest as Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis. Diarrhea can also be a symptom of colon cancer, though it is rare and typically presents in later stages when treatment options are limited.
📹 Do You Need To Clean Your Colon?
It’s important to take care of your body, but there are some parts of your body that don’t need too much attention. Tara is here to …
As a closed system colon hydrotherapist, I always give a pro biotic immediately after the session to put back the little bit of friendly bacteria that comes out with all the toxins. And I strongly encourage clients to put on the nice big salad they eat an hour later, lemon juice or apple cider vinegar to put back the electrolytes lost during the session.
Years ago I got so terribly constipated on low carb. It really gave me anxiety trying it again even though I’d lost alot of weight. After alot of illness I’m now on keto and have never been so regular. It’s like my body is finally functioning really well. A healthy gut works so well. I love it. Plus 19kgs down in weight. It’s a win win
This is one of an ancient Indian health tradition . For younger kids, consume one or two spoons of castor oil. For adults, “warm water 1 liter + 1 spoon of sea salt” drink at 5am early morning. This will flush the colon and rejuvenate health. I practice this salt water cleansing every two months Eat ‘ghee pongal’ or ‘ghee kichdi’ or any rice+ghee+pudding to seal the intestinal walls
Before beginning Keto I introduced liver and gallbladder supporting supplements. Next, did a several organic coffee enemas. Then, a gallbladder cleanse. My primary reasons for adopting the Keto lifestyle were insulin resistance with high fasting glucose, NAFLD and gallbladder problems. The results have been excellent and I am glad I did the cleanses.
I get it too much of anything can be bad. I was constipated so my doctor told me to increase my fiber. It plugged me up for weeks. Nothing I tried helped, not even enemas. It took three colonics to get things moving again. I have never been so happy to poop again. At that time she was a miracle worker well worth the $100.00 tip I gave her.😁
In my experience doing an enemy every few months, say 3-6 is a good way to maintain colon health over a longer period of time, essentially you wanna do at least two every year. I believe it’s important to clean the intestinal walls because they have suffered from years of abuse, consisting of, inflammation, over-saturation, the amount of toxicity in one’s system cannot be ignored. The process of elimination, detoxification and rejuvenation should be on everyone’s to do list. Enemas/ Hydrotherapy are the way to go. I’d stay away from herbal laxatives or colonic remedies of any kind. Your body is mechanical in design, therefore the engineering of one’s digestive system requires practical methods to optimise colon health. Think of it like your pipe system underneath your sink, every so often blockages occur, requiring the need to flush/clear it out allowing the passageway to discharge waste efficiently. Same with your body, some blockages require physical work. I’d also recommend fasting during this period too. Fasting within itself is an internal cleaning exercise, a natural detox, whilst colon cleansing is an external application. Combining the two may provide optimal results when this is practiced with care.
A 72hr fast is incredible for clearing your body out however its advisable to drink small amounts of psyllium husk powder and plenty of fluid with electrolytes to stop sudden bathroom visits with excess water and bile as it all binds to the psyllium and passes through as normal, your stomach bloating can literally shrink considerably over this time
I’m so glad you mentioned going Carnivore if fiber is an issue. I went carnivore for 30 days and it helped heal my gut immensely. I was doing too much fiber because that was the recommendation for a sluggish colon – turns out, it was ruining my colon. I’m so much better now doing intermittent fasting and keto. Thanks for the spot-on info, Dr. Berg!!!
Daily Intermittent fasting (IF) allows more of the bowel to be emptied before food is introduced. This facilitates bowel cleanliness. However, not all of the bowel is emptied by IF alone. Other means of further cleaning the bowel are often required to obtain sufficient gut cleanliness. As long as the gut is over toxic, it is difficult, if not impossible, to achieve a healthy body. To achieve better gut cleanliness I am eating only fruit one day a week to help flush the areas of the bowel that are not emptied on a daily basis via IF. I eat small servings of raw, ripened fruit for the day. I wait one hour between eating these small servings of fruit. This helps to keep blood glucose spikes within reasonable limits which I monitor with blood glucose testing. I know this is not keto. But it is working for me to achieve better gut cleanliness which in turns helps to significantly lower overall body toxicity. I know what gets flushed out of my bowel on and after my weekly fruit day. And I know this procedure is helping a lot to achieve better gut cleanliness.
I’ve done coffee enema for many many years. I’m also keto/carnivore and i IF. I’ve had no problem what so ever I only feel calmer healthier and clear of mind and when my skin looks amazing then I just say no organized WM docs who I’m guessing have never tried a CE. So thanks but no thanks to your opinion about doing these. I remember having Colonoscopy and after getting though cleaning out my colon how much better I felt! And way I’m still here I a functional 71 yr old and I’m still running skiing lifting weights and so on with help of CE. Peace anyway
Thanks for this. I do juicing cleanses and I try to stay away from too many apples as they are on the dirty list. When I go on a juicing fast I’m also using products to cleanse the liver and gallbladder and parasites and along with that are colon cleanse products too to make sure I excrete the stuff I’m cleansing out. I honestly think over time the colon cleansing products have messed up my digestion and I’m trying to get my gut back in balance. I’m struggling with it though. Seems whenever I eat food my stomach cramps up and I’m so bloated. I honestly feel better just drinking water and liquids and salad or juicing veggies. My stomach and digestion seem messed up and it makes sense that the colon cleanse products may have gotten me way out of balance. After my cleanse it felt so good to excrete daily so I kept taking the product to help with that but I think I messed up my gut. I’m on a liquid fast now and NO colon cleansing herbs and trying to be kind to my gut while it heals
I did the ‘”so easy 3 day colon cleanse” i was amazed how it worked . i started working in a warehouse and after 3 hours of walking i had a lot of pain it seem to come from whatever connects the thigh to the hip. you talked about it in one of your articles. it was painful and hard to walk after about 3 hrs what amazed me was that after the colon cleanse this completely went away. so in my mind my intestines were buldging an d effecting other things in my body i did notice that i should probably take probitotics as i did get a little constipated also i have done keto for about 2 yrs. so i was eating well.
It’s a long life to really sit down and years what works for you from a doctor advice and from past experiences and reading fact checking what Mom provided and genetics on life span of parents siblings. Hereditary facts from your own childhood experience its a long and full time life learning process. Thanks for people commenting it’s very useful 😃
I hesitate to disagree with a doctor on a medical subject, however I notice a marked improvement in my more miserable menstrual symptoms when I do a water enema then coffee enema at the beginning of the first/worst day of my cycle. I grant you, there seems to be little benefit from them otherwise. Intermittent fasting — yes. I believe from my experience that this is very beneficial.
I went Carnivore for 4 months. Now I add fermented veg and occasionally a salad. I did 5 day therapy course with Garden of Life raw probiotics, the 400 billion one. My lifelong constipation is gone, my weight is stablasing, cravings and binge-eating are gone, back pain is gone, I seep well and my autoimmune is improving. I was planing a colonic but I don’t think I need it anymore.
Almost all ingested food, 80 percent of electrolytes, and 90 percent of water are absorbed in the small intestine. Although the entire small intestine is involved in the absorption of water and lipids, most absorption of carbohydrates and proteins occurs in the jejunum. This is why people can survive without a colon.
Oh man I need everyone’s help from these comments. I’ve not gone in close to 4 weeks. I work a ton, I’ve have had trouble like this for 10+ years. I don’t have the time or Monday to try all these things Dr’s have had me try. I have easily thousands of dollars in products. There is only one place within an hr that does colonics and they are always booked for weeks and weeks. I feel like I’m going to die from a ruptured colon and no one cares. I went to the hospital once and they had me take saline in the cold public bathroom and try to colonic myself. It was a terrible experience. I just don’t know what to do.
I’ve tried colon cleansing twice and I do not recommend it at all. My first attempt, I felt good because I got dark brown poop after it. A month later, I tried cleansing again, but then I got white poop. I think I cleared out way too much bile and friendly bacteria. Promoters of colon cleansing often compare colon to a pipe, but a colon is not a pipe. Colon is living and pipes that accumulate dark junk on the wall does not exist in a healthy colon
Thank you for reasonable article. It seems like a LOT of doctors just go against it trying to scare away people. I am about to try this for myself. I am doing liver and gallblader flush so it is part of protocol. Hoping to avoid my gallblader removed. Doctor found 2 stones in it (about 1cm ). I feel like this is not good idea to get rid of organ just like that…. but none of doctors understand my point of view and even gets angry when I tell them what I am about to do. Well I think I have nothing to loose…
I recently ran into Colon cleansing. Been having stomach problems for a long min so this became something to look into. I get bad bowel movement. Diarrhea constipation and now kinda itchi so I started a cleans since I work going in and out countries it became a high probability I would somehow get parasites. So this is interesting. Went to various doctors and had very active and high number of white blood cells and found nothing yet many people with my symptoms feel extremely good after a colon hydro cleans. Hope this bring my body some peace. I need it. Took me a long time to destroy my body so it’ll take time to fix.
Guys a simple solution is using castor oil. In India we drink two full tea spoons of castor oil early in the morning. Throughout the day keep drinking warm water every ten minutes. The more you drink water the more you hit the toilet. We do this every six months and is one of the easiest and simplest ways
It sounds like you did the 7 day cleanse described in Dr. Jensen’s book “Tissue Cleansing Through Bowel Management.” The book s a great education on the bowel. I read the book after being diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome. The book gave detailed instructions for the 7 day cleanse which included the colema. The unpasteurized apple juice used in the cleanse is for the pectin and only enough to make the high fiber drink more palatable. I did the seven day cleanse and the colema which included fasting for the entire seven days. Not to be gross, but you cannot imagine what has been sitting in your colon until it is flushed out . The book also includes photographs of what to expect from the colema. It’s really an excellent read and I highly recommend it.
I did all three, in one week because my constipation is so severe..I was sick for weeks, after still haven’t recovered. ( doctor said it’s IBS years ago and never went to another doctor for confirmation, but my sister whose a resident thinks its celiac disease because of tons of problems I have with constipation… I also struggle with animea, teeth problems, joint problems, anxiety, depression and the list goes on) I get constipated even on keto with intermittent fast… I only go to the toilet if I put laxative, otherwise forget, I can go a week to two weeks without going… than the nausea, dizziness, colon pain, back pain, fatigue, irritable escalates… I’m going carnivore for a month or two because I’m struggling… I’m in pain as I write this
Hello Dr Berg! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us! I wanted to ask if you could do article about the “Miracle juice” (apple+carrot+beetroot juice). I used to drink it and what I could tell was that I felt that Ive had more energy and better concentration but I never persisted in drinking it for longer term. I read that it has a lot more benefits but would like to hear your opinion about it as I feel what Ive read is only one little piece of the puzzle in the much bigger picture! I respect your opinion and your work a lot and I am saying this as a person who is very curious and usually questions many things.
So I was told at 19 that my stomach lining was of a 90 year old woman. So I have been trying to eat right but after having major surgery it was hard. Start the intermittent fasting and taking Cascara Sagrada to help. I hope that’s good but it’s been helping and a probiotic also. I drink hot teas with lemon first thing in the morning and vinegar detox as well so far it’s working. Now working on getting my hair to grow back.
OK. First time I disagree with Dr. Berg. I’ve done colon cleansing on a yearly basis with coffee and water. In combination with fasting. I do a controlled program in a resort where they they really take care and even do a liverflush if you are up to it. They are very careful in giving supplements which also contains electrolytes and they monitor your condition every hour off the day and night if needed. When I go back home I feel like having new batteries. Getting constipated means you are not breaking the fast in the right way.
Good article. I personally learned Enema on Indian website and tried it a lot. This is my personal experience. I felt good, really good. I suppose I had bad diets for a long time and enema helped me get those toxins and wastes sticking to my colon. At first, I did enema with 300-500ml of clean water, once or twice a day for 3 weeks. This helped a lot. Even when I had bad diet like consuming fried chickens, snacks, etc my weight did not gain at all and felt better. I think for people who have been consuming products, not actual foods like veges, can have great advantages with enema. Of course as Dr.Eric recommends, providing healthy foods is more important factor I believe.
Dr Berg in one of your articles you said that supplementing with calcium wasn’t good, but if I don’t take 500mg of Calcium Citrate and 1.7g of Calcium Aspartate Anhydrous daily I get tingling shins, feet, soar teeth and stiff fingers. I’ve been taking 20KIU of D3/K2 and a Tablespoon of coconut oil and a Digest Aid with it, but the moment I miss a dose the tingling comes back. Miss another dose then the stiff fingers, then my teeth start to hurt. So a new symptom with each dose missed. Start to take it and symptoms disappear. I’ve been taking for two months. Any suggestions? Feels like my body just isn’t assimilating.
Hi dr. What about the parasites that comes with meat? Or other toxins, drugs administered to animals, the stress factor that theyve experienced before being slaughtered, etc? Also as far as my knowledge, meat, esoecially red meat is totally non-eliminative. Meaning does not help the body eliminate toxins
Ty, about to have a colonoscopy Screening and wanted more info on Keto. Also having a EDG Diagnostic procedure at the same time. Really really want to get on track and feel better. Going to Trader Joe’s tomorrow and purchase some fermented veges. Hope to start small and work better food into my body. It’s tough when husband doesn’t care about losing weight, so I have to move on and get myself ontrack. We don’t like the same foods so it’s tough. Some men are so strong mentally on politics and opinions but the food they intake is no big deal. He has been a type 2 Diabetic for 25 years. Septic infection, big toe amputated in 2019. Open wound just got healed on foot and he started dipping tobacco again. (He will not go to a counselor.) Doctors give him positive feedback at his 6 month labs results, so he is GREAT at taking pills. Lots of pills. Thanks for your article.
I’ve been intermittent fasting. Eating 1-1.5 lbs of beef and several servings of green veggies like asparagus broccoli and some green beans. Keeping my carbs under 20. I do that 3 days a week. The other days I also intermittent fast eat Ayurvedic foods which are not low carb. I’ve been feeling great and have lost 12 lbs (which is all I needed to lose). Trying to get rid of all belly fat and gain muscle. It seems to be working and I feel great. Any comments?
my urticaria and eczema was always getting worst when I cant poop well… 3yra ago I got the allergy test the needle and the patches on the back and it’s negative… there where I try to research and yeah I watched Dr.berg and there when I learned to do fasting … and it’s helps. and now again for 3 months I’m suffering in eczema again.and yeah I really need to fix my gur again .
In other articles you recommend ‘Wheat Grass Juice Powder’ in order to heal the lining of the stomach, which sounds great, yet there is also ‘Wheat Grass Powder’ and I wondered what the difference was, and on another website it made this statement about the ‘Juice’ for. The USDA recommends that the vegetables you eat be mostly whole foods, not juice. That’s because research indicates the importance of vegetable fiber for colon health and the prevention of degenerative disease. Juice has its place, but whole foods are what we are designed to eat. Recent research confirms that the majority of vegetable nutrition should come from whole food vegetables, not juice. Without fiber, juices can lead to damage to the mucous of the intestinal wall. May I ask, why the juice form is recommended please?
Hi Dr Berg! Could you do a article on fecal transplants? Every germaphobia alarm goes off in my head when I think about it, like No Way on so many levels!!! But people Enthusiastically Swear by them! Or Maybe instead of fecal transplants,, we could just put a good probiotic up there?? Thank you!! 🙂 🙂
Dietary lifestyle matters bigly… colonics need a risk benefit analysis no doubt…can be very critical in healing an extremely busted gut. Then you heal the other stuff. Can take years when so sick. That is what my wife had to do. She was in gut shutdown from concurrent SIBO/SIFO . (visual candida mushrooms at colonic) . Massive methylation problems unchecked most of her life did a lot of damage to her CNS, gut and immune system. (recommend the dirty genes book) Grateful for your knowledge as it affirms much of what we have learned! 8 years in and she is starting to feel human again!
Is there a good natural colon prep for a colonoscopy? Dr Berg that’s a good article topic. I haven’t seen one yet. I was diagnosed with diverticulitis and fatty liver recently and will be getting a colonoscopy soon and I’m not crazy about the regular protocol. I have been taking 1oz of aloe Vera gel and also chlorophyll. I didn’t take the amoxicillin the prescribed because I am building my good bacteria.
Hello Dr berg. Firstly I want to say thank you for all the great articles you give us they have truly been a blessing. I want your opinion on doing a colon cleanse if the person has cancer? My father has stage 2 and we have started intermit fasting along with prolong fasting. We have been advised for him to do coffee enemas as part of flushing out the bad toxins. His diet has never been good but since he was diagnosed we have really cleaned it up. So can you advice us if we should do a colon cleanse along with a liver /kidney flush? I’m sure he’s got a lot of bad toxins what we need to flush out but just wanted your opinion it? Thank you
Let me asking you a question ! I want to clean out my system and start fresh. Can I take a laxative and clean my bowls and then eat oatmeal and eggs for breakfast and salad and fruit for lunch and dinner Mandy have kimchi and yogurt for dinner for the probiotic and drink nothing but water to get my gut in better health and lose belly fat
I have ben growing radish greens in potting soil in 12 x12 x 2 inch trays, I use the top flood and drain method, and them when I cut them I steam them for a short time and then eat them, the fiber scrubs the whole bowel, that helps my mal absorbsion problem, also I am still detoxing from toxic substance from years past.
could you please do a article for how we get lasting effects from prebiotics? The benefit is temporary so one should regularly take them to improve digestion issues.I heard that it is because those bacteria in prebiotics are obtained from usually cows so cannot populate in our microbiome. It seems like there is no real solution other than fixing the diet and make sure to consume lots of different vegetables every day.
Dr. Berg…. My purpose for wanting to flush out my colon, is because of constipation, but also to start a Prolonged Fast (7-10 days??), to help treat my cancer. I want NOTHING in my Colon, so that Autophagy will target my cancer cells better. What do you think about drinking 64oz. of Himalayan Pink Salt Water for 2 Days, to completely flush out ALL traces of fecal matter from my colon, in order for my body to switch to utilizing Ketones (instead of fecal matter), and for Autophagy to better target my cancer cells?
I had some insanely bad stomach issues after stopping an antipsychotic. Then because I got insomnia from the withdrawals, I had to put back on it, now I’m off it again. And the stomach issues that happened the first time returned. Fuck my life for the next couple of weeks! Last time I wasn’t able to eat for a week. I could only do sips of water at a time, othwerwise I would throw it up. And still with small sips I even got gag reflexes. 🙁 Now I’m at the point again with nausea. I hope it wont continue for a week again! Also not hoping for the severe stomach cramps I had for 3 days. Constantly going to the bathroom, only able to squeeze tiny bits out. Constantly need to go to bathroom, but the muscle intestines just ain’t working properly. Hell on earth! And this time around I even got really bad acid reflux as well. I haven’t had it for a couple of years, but I had it for several years beforehand. Screw all these medications!
Dr. Berg, I have considered colon hydrotherapy for a gentler way to prep for a colonoscopy. I have IBS, and a past prep with the gallon jug of laxative nearly put me in the hospital. If there a safe way to prep for a colonoscopy procedure for anyone with a compromised system? I’m so grateful for your advice!
Following removal of two tumours, I now have a permanent colostomy and all traces of cancer have gone. On medical advice, rather than evacuation being into a colostomy bag, with no control. I use a pump and irrigate through the stoma every 24 hours. This has worked well for me for 15 months, but no one has ever discussed the need for special diets or replacing electrolytes and good bacteria with me. I eat a low carbohydrate pretty much sugar free diet, otherwise I eat and drink as normal. Do you think I should carry on as I have beeb doing, on the basis of if it’s not broken, don’t fix it?
So my stool always floats… At least since I began making my last entree of the day finely ground flaxmeal ‘soup’ with all the residues of the day, instant pot, 0 time, Nat release, lots of herbs and spices, mix it up, ALWAYS Delicious. Is that a colon cleanse? I had no intention of going there, just noticing… I throw in other vegs too…
I’ve been experiencing a lot of constipation lately, probably because I have a lot of stress in my life and I eat a lot of fiber a lot of raw vegetables kale spinach red onions broccoli raw almonds… if I don’t run most days of the week combined with one long run it’s a pill and downhill and lots of jumping up and down jump rope etc. I get very backed up. I have been drinking a tea called smooth move by traditional medicinals but I’m afraid that it messes with my electrolytes. I’m really looking for some safe alternative or some advice on what to use. Maybe I need to buy something like Colace ??
I have IBS-C I tried to fix my diet by doing keto but sometimes I feel eating bread with olive oil or apple make me feel better.. so confused and now I start to feel nauseous just by thinking about food ..everytime I start eating.. I tried also green powder to have more fiber and fermented cabbage by ut it makes me feel bad.
You’ve said that SIBO is when there’s too much bad and good bacteria in your intestines because it’s moved lower than it was supposed to. If enemas flush out everything, do you recommend enemas to people who have SIBO? That way the good bacteria is also flushed out of where it’s not supposed to be and you can start over? Am I not understanding it right? Can SIBO be reversed any way other than prolonged fasting? Thank you. 🙂 0:)
Colon cleansing is just a load of old shit . (Geddit?) ;). Seriously though, I can’t speak for other people but cleansing my colon has been the best thing that I have done for my health in my whole life . I strongly advise anyone with any chronic health problem to spend a lot of time researching this issue as it is such a deeper topic than you first realise .
People don’t realize how self-sufficient the body is as long as it’s take care of properly. We, as a species, have survived long before these newer theories came into practice. Not that I’m disregarding all modern medicine (that would be hypocritical as I’m in college studying to be a doctor), but the body was designed to handle and prevent a vast number of things. We usually just disrupt the natural processes with these sudden health fads that arise and are often baseless with very little research to back them up.
There are two types of colon: (Nervous and digestive) People who suffer from (IBS) irritates them because of anger and emotion and stress. And people who suffer from (the digestive colon) causes bloating, indigestion and output. anyway ————— There stimuli directly to the colon that cause problems inside your body. * Psychological stress, anger, stress and anxiety. * Stay away from alcohol. * Garlic and onions cooked third parties. *Fizzy drinks. * Some medical drugs. * Coffee and tea. * Fried foods. * Spices and condiments. * Some types of vegetables (cabbage, cabbage, mallow, eggplant). * Exposure to cold air currents. * Big meal unusually. * Eat tomatoes Bakecrha (either without chaff do not raise the colon). * Milk and milk. * Lentils, beans —————— Coexistence with the disease Examples of co-existence of the following methods: * Ginger drink with mint and very useful analgesic for pain and repelling gas. * Herb Fennel: Fennel is typically used to regulate the digestion process. * Eat oranges and watermelon and cantaloupe. * Eat regular meals, and balanced, and avoid high-fat foods. * Eating a large amount of water. * Drinking green tea or drink chamomile * Put a little cumin in a glass of water and drink it before going to work * Continuously sports are muscle pulls and keeps the weight and control the rhythm of the colon (walking for half an hour or work exercises of the abdomen and back, which helps to eject gases from your body) * Eat six small meals a day instead of three large meals.
With all kind of harmful substances mixed in your foods nowadays, i believe cleaning your colon is a way of prevention. even veges are with pesticides now. You’d be surprise of how different your body will feel once you’ve done detoxifying / colon cleansing. Key is to always do it moderately. Dont overdo it.
For my body, I feel like I poop a lot lol. But I don’t eat the healthiest all the time, and when I don’t I don’t poop as much, which freaks me out because on the days I don’t eat healthy I don’t poop at all. My mom has had trouble pooping to the point where she goes only once a week, the food she eats NEEDS TO COME OUT lol. She’s been to many doctors and they don’t know why she poops once a week, we bought a colon cleansing powder and she poops more regularly now. I think some peoples body’s can’t take care of themselves naturally if they are damaged too badly. Like if your body is only being filled with really unhealthy processed foods and you expect to not gain weight 0.0
Since centuries the optimal manner for a bowel cleansing will be taking castor oil. Remember that castor oil is the only laxative that will not work in the intestines by irritating them, but by activating and synthesizing certain substances in the human body. So any habituation of the human body or diminishing laxative effect is absolutely impossible and castor oil is suitable in a special manner for chronic constipation. Take 1 tablespoon (15 ml) castor oil early in the morning on an empty stomach; in the case of a severe constipation eventuelly later a second tablespoon castor oil.
Well I think that IT DEPENDS ON THE INDIVIDUAL because if your diet is not based on healthy foods for the most part, you Do need to cleanse more often and if you’re a healthy eater than maybe ones or two times a year. I mean think of your digestive system almost like a car engine it needs maintenance. Besides all the stuff we eat Toxics and everything . The human body is not designed to process it. And yess I’m doing it soon.
here’s a nuggit of wisdom from an old troll, do everything you want but control yourself, everything in small amounts is harmless and healthy for you, the minute you start putting all your money on one thing and one thing only you run into problems. eating burgers all the time is not good for you, but just eating salad and nothing else isn’t good for you either. here meal plan idea, for 6 days a week toggle between eating different things, so monday your feeling lazy, that’s when you eat something light, but tuesday eat some mildly unhealthy but can still be burned, like pasta, chicken or steak, doesn’t matter if its got a little fat on it because you’re gonna working your ass off today, find either a grueling chore, play a contact sport or dance your ass off, whatever, work it til it hurts because wednesday you’re resting, which means vegetables and other light food and relaxation, help rebuild the damaged muscles. keep doing this pattern til the 7th day, day 7 is the “fuck it” day, the one day your are allowed (within moderation) to eat whatever you want, no food is off limits. another piece of advice is, and this is the most important STOP STRESSING AND STOP THINKING ABOUT THE DIET! the stress and worry will make it harder, don’t think about the diet, stay relaxed, if you’re stressed your body will react and cause you to gain weight like crazy. stick to the plan but don’t worry about it, because it will take a while for it to kick in, so fixate on hobbies and keep to a good scheduled and you will gradually shrink down to the ideal size.
“For the general population who has no known health issues” Lmao have you seen the average American adult over weight or clinically obsess. This leads to everything from adult type 2 diabetes, to heart disease. The average American is chronically sick and on multiple mess by the age of 40. No known health issues… I have used oxy powder and so have tons of my friends all got the same result no more bloating flat stomach. The most important thing is you regular no more multiple trips to the bathroom and constipation. But sure all these results who needs them when you have this lady telling you everyone in the United States is basically healthy. I’m sure 99% of the public works out as well.
cleaning in general is overdone. I’ve lived with a few women, all users of chemicals… I did too, not putting it all on ‘them’. We’d get sick with contagions regularly like every one else. I had some hard times & now live alone, the PTSD I live with makes me quite recluse & lacking energy, so I rarely clean (clean *pick things up lol let alone wipe things down or even regular dishes). I use one plate all day, wipe with a tissue between meals & clean my plate at the end of the day with hot water for the grease that’s it. Use the pan over & over till gunked on food stuff makes it impossible to cook my choice of meal. Sweep but mopping is biannual at best. There is more but I think you reader might get it… been about 6 years now, no colds no flu no gut aches & my skin condition (Psoriasis) is very calm. Oh yes & I only shower before & after outings, daily showers are for the petite twat. Life is smelly, that we fight that is business not nature.
I dunno man. I have severe IBS, and no diet changes or amount of “eating healthy and exercising” fix that problem. It’s always the same. My body’s lower half of the digestive tract just decides to turn off occasionally for no conceivable reason. I do enemas once a month simply for comfort’s sake, otherwise I just feel like a bloated sack of shit (literally.) I don’t do it for any health benefits beyond that. I only use filtered water, as well. Some people use enemas to make sure they are clean for safe anal sex, like other people have said. I don’t really even know if its useful as a health supplement. But as long as it’s done in moderation and safely, I can’t really see why it’s a huge problem.
Colon cleanse to aid weight loss is indirect. It relieves you of that temporary weight plus yes but once you rest you have abit more energy, the big gut gets softer etc. So it gives relief to allow you to get started on a workout or diet. Using herds like aloe ect cant really destroy your gut bacteria like a processed medicine. Plus its only for a short period like a week
If you ever do have a colonic, your first one may not be too dramatic. After a few sessions however, you will be amazed and disgusted with what is being flushed out of your colon. It seems the current medical community do not understand that the key to health IS a clean colon. I assume this simple fact is over looked in the clouds of complexity that the medical profession tends to wallow-in.
I totally disagree! I will back it up with a statement and a question. 1- We are not dealing with just food products anymore i.e.- additives, preservatives, chemicals) are endogenous to people’s state of health; be it physical, mental, or emotional. 2- Since when has the use of water been a bad thing? You mentioned that there were risks associated with this practice, but please tell us the risks associated with the use of prescriptions! Welcome to life where their are risks associated with many things but be assured that I would rather take risks with rectal supplementtations (enemas) whose practices go back to the days of ancient Egypt. I would rather take my risks with water and herbs than risk my health relying on modern day medical malpractices. Feel free to respond
Cleanses are too extreme, in my opinion. You should be able to eat normal, natural/healthy food to assist in the process of cleaning toxins. If you are building up more toxins than your body can get rid of you must be eating ridiculously unhealthily. Plus if you don’t do a cleanse gradually enough, the load of toxins all at once can overload other systems
From what I know emptying (Which is all an herbal cleanse does) your colon causes improper digestion and over the years your upper body can get bony, shrink and lose muscle mass. It seems this is something that is covered up. Your colon is full of what you eat daily. cleansing it is like eating a good amount of broccoli preferably raw and filling it with good things. It releases and fills all the time. Didnt anyone suffer by getting bony up top from a colon cleanse?
Tend to lean toward conservative thinking here. No reason – mostly. However – the effects of a bad diet and poor habits might be ameliorated by a combination of a one time cleanse of a short fast (three days, fresh green juices, no fiber, no sugars) and hot castor oil packs on belly and liver. Castor oil is NOT for internal use, but applied to the skin with heat it is said to open the lymphatic system with drains into the liver flushing it all out through the intestines. THEN a healthy diet and exercise….
This is bullshit. Do we need to cleanse every week? No. Do we need to do this from time to time? Yes. With all the many wonders of Ancient Kemet(egypt)science, math, medicine, how could they be wrong about a simple thing like “death begins in the colon” I mean why would they say and live by that idiom? If my Ancestors were smart enough to align gargantuan stone structures with specific constellations with near perfect precision then I’m sure just about everything else they swore by had factual data behind it.
The colon only contains about 5-10 lbs of fecal material. That is not enough weight to merit using colon cleaners as a weight loss technique. Especially since you will regain that weight the next time you eat. If you want to loose weight the answer is simple think of a scale. on one side you have input, or what goes into your body. On the other side is output, or how much of that energy is lost through daily activities. Now if your output exceeds your input you will loose weight. If your input exceeds your output you will gain weight. But if they are about even, your scale is balanced and nothing happens. That is the simple explanation to it.
So essentially not enough research has been done by the layperson, resulting in a lack of information on safe daily practices allowing for misuse (by the idiot layperson). No actual proof provided as to why this could potentially hurt someone. Like any other thing on this planet, you need to do research on how to properly utilize something before it retains benefits. And here you are claiming we shouldn’t explore other options because “its disrupting natural occurrences” This was a useless article.
I have Ulcerative Colitis and I’ve had endoscopies, and I’m guessing that the process leading to it (no food for 12hrs, drink 3l of water, yucky medicine to induce pooping) is what is considered colon cleansing – if it is, then I don’t see how people can do that to themselves without a medical reason. I’m against colon cleansing unless it’s for a medical procedure, at which point it isn’t colon cleansing anymore.
I want to do a cleanse, but via the mouth route, not the butt route. Unfortunately, all the information I seem to find is on various things to stick up your butt. My plan is to fast, so that my colon empties, but then once it does, what can I eat/drink to get rid of/check for any residue that remains on the sides of my intestines? I’m thinking I’d like to “soak” it with water, but whenever I drink a lot of extra water, it goes through the bladder and out the urethra, and I don’t think any of it really gets into the colon. Not sure what options there are (besides laxatives, which I don’t think are a good idea). Any ideas?
We did not evolve to have hoses shoved in our bums, otherwise, we might have evolved to have an inlet anus and an outlet anus. Since it was evolved as a one-way path, any efforts to fix or enhance flow/conditions in digestion should begin at the mouth. Also important is to determine whether digestive needs subtractive or additive/both measures-adding things to diet or activity or taking things away.
Its only necessary if you have extreme complex GI problems. Like if you have every part of your digestive sytem fucked up like me despite how well you eat exercise take a natural medicine. Like people just born with a fucked up body. Some people need colonics. But only if you are a rare complex case. I speak from a lot a lot a lot of experience. If you have any of these severely or more than five look into colonics and veganism. I.B.S, mitochondria disorder, neurotransmitter disorder, S.I.B.O, severe cronic constipation despite eating well exersising and staying hydrated.
For a healthy person that never gets constipated then yes a colon cleanse is use less. I also agree that a person that is constipated should not relay on a colon cleanse long term but to get there digestive system back to where it works like it should. But doctors will never heal a person only manage symptoms . There are plenty of holistic doctors that have the knowledge to get the body working like it should so you won’t relay on a product to have a bowel movement
Your body does have mechanisms in place but when you eat processed food those mechanisms stop working properly. That’s why diverticulitis and colon cancer rates have sky rocketed. Old fashioned enemas with plain spring water actually helps with a variety of health issues–without the use of poisonous prescription meds sold to you by you doctor.
Exercise? What’s that? lol – just kidding, what are the statistics or percentage of people who get excited when they hear that word (Exercise) compared to people who don’t get excited? Another way of saying it is: hard work for the reward of a healthier body versus no work & or miracle pills & supplements hoping for the same result =^_^=
sounds like your lumping too many types of so called cleanses into one article topic and say this could be bad and there is to little information. KISS, Do a article on strictly a salt water cleans flush, so that you aren’t willing and eager to be so aloof about your topic. basically I learn nothing useful about a cleans.
