Diarrhea stains on carpet can be difficult to remove, but there are several steps you can take to effectively clean them. First, wear latex gloves and scoop up excess poop using paper towels. Next, sprinkle baking soda on the area to remove the odor. Vacuum the area to clean up the baking soda as well.

For fresh diarrhea, use the shop vac to scrape as much of the diarrhea into a plastic bag and dispose of it outside. Mix 2 cups of water with 1 tablespoon of white vinegar and 1 tablespoon of gentle dish soap in a spray bottle. Spray the solution onto the carpet and let it sit for at least an hour. Wear latex gloves or high-quality ones to avoid lingering poop smells.

If you have a feces stain in your carpet, use an enzyme cleaner. Enzyme cleaning solutions are commonly used by professional carpet cleaners to clean the most difficult messes. Use the Stain Buster tool to easily remove feces stains from fabrics, carpet, and upholstery.

Blot up as much of the stain as possible with a clean, dry cloth. Next, mix a mixture of ½ tablespoon of liquid dishwashing soap, 1 cup of warm water, and 1 cup of white vinegar. Use a fork to scrape off any dried feces and splash some of the solutions directly on the stain.

For urine stains, use diluted vinegar and baking soda (1:1 vinegar to water with 2/3 tablespoon of baking soda), scrub, and dry with heat. Spray the stain with a mix of white vinegar and cold water, then cover with baking soda. Repeat until the stain is no longer visible.

To remove feces from carpet fibers, use a moist paper towel or baby wipe and pinch it to remove any feces. Sprinkle baking soda over the area and liberally spray it with a 1:4 solution of 3 hydrogen peroxide and cool water. Rinse the affected area with water and vacuum thoroughly. Clean the area with Zr™ Water by spraying it thoroughly and blotting it dry. If the stain persists, use a commercial carpet deodorizer with enzymes.

Make a dilute mixture of equal parts vinegar and water and put inside a spray bottle. Mist the area until it’s damp but not wet. Allow to air dry. Vinegar is a good natural deodorizer but does carry its own scent, so there will be some lingering smell for a while. As an alternative to plain white vinegar, apple cider vinegar does the same job of cleaning and deodorizing but has a more pleasant scent.

Try covering the dry area with baking soda. Leave overnight and then vacuum up the powder. If it doesn’t do the trick try spraying the area with warm water until damp and then reapply the baking soda. Let it dry overnight and vacuum up. This should remove any last traces of vomit that were leaving a lingering smell.

To improve the scent, add 5-10 drops of essential oils per cup of baking soda before putting it on the carpet. Make sure to use clear or natural-colored oils and spot-check the carpet first. If you don’t have essential oils (remember some oils are toxic to pets), you can always use dried herbs or spices instead.

  • After you’ve performed a spot test, spray the solution over the area where the vomit was until the carpet is damp.
