Diarrhea is a common condition characterized by loose stools that occur three or more times a day. To recover faster, it is essential to drink plenty of fluids and consume foods with soluble fiber, such as white bread, white rice, and white pasta. Dr. Clarke recommends plain white rice or pasta as a bland starch.
Refined wheat in white bread, regular pasta, saltines, and pretzels can help bind stools, but whole grains, nuts, and seeds should be avoided. Instead, opt for plain white rice or pasta as a bland starch. Drinking 8 to 10 glasses of clear fluids daily and at least 1 cup of liquid every time a loose bowel movement occurs is crucial.
Starchy and low-fiber foods, such as buttered or cheesy noodles, can help with diarrhea. Wholemeal pasta and a sauce filled with fiber-rich vegetables are also recommended. Refined starches, such as rusks, pasta, white bread, semolina, and oats, toast, plain pasta, crackers, boiled potatoes, plain white rice, applesauce, and bananas, are also recommended.
In summary, consuming soluble fiber-rich foods like white bread, white rice, and pasta can help with diarrhea, but it is essential to avoid whole grains, nuts, and seeds.

Can you eat plain pasta?
Can pasta be a healthy meal? How to make pasta healthy?. Pasta can be a healthy meal. Since pasta is not very nutritious on its own, it’s essential to add other foods to your pasta that are high in nutrients. You can ensure a healthy pasta meal by adding your favorite veggies to your dish and a lean protein, such as chicken, shrimp, or fish. You should also avoid adding high-salt and high-sugar sauces that are commonly found in grocery stores. At Wildgrain, we make sure our classic marinara sauce, which pairs perfectly with your chosen pasta, is made with the freshest ingredients; we also avoid adding any unnecessary sugar and salt.
Is pasta on a heart healthy diet?. Whole grain pasta is heart-healthy. Research has shown that consuming whole grains, including whole wheat pasta, can help to prevent heart disease. Even better, tomatoes are also considered to be heart-healthy. Tomatoes contain lycopene, an antioxidant that can also help to reduce the risk of heart disease, which means marinara sauce is an ideal topping for a heart-healthy pasta meal.
What pasta dish has the least carbs? What is the healthiest way to eat pasta?. Since traditional pasta is a high-carbohydrate food, pasta made from vegetables or beans offers the lowest carbohydrate option. Pasta dishes with the least amount of carbohydrates are pasta alternatives, such as pasta made from chickpeas, lentils, or hearts of palm. To still get the texture of pasta without the excess carbohydrates, you can also try spiralizing vegetables, spaghetti squash, or shirataki noodles, which are very low in carbohydrates. The healthiest way to eat pasta is to control the portion size of refined pasta, eat pasta made from whole grains, or pair your pasta dish with hearty vegetables, lean protein, and a healthy tomato sauce that is free of excess sugar and salt.
Is plain pasta easy to digest?
In most cases, food digestion takes longer than 30 minutes to digest food. In fact, the entire digestive process can take several hours. Only simple carbohydrates, such as plain rice and pasta, take just between 30 to 60 minutes to get digested in the stomach.
It typically takes food more than 40 minutes to pass through the stomach. After that, the food stays in the intestine anywhere from 40 to 120 minutes, or sometimes even longer.
While these are just estimates of the time required to digest food, the actual transit time depends on the density of the food, which pertains to the protein or fat content. For example, peanut butter, avocado and eggs can take two to four hours to leave your stomach.
The digestion process breaks down food into its components called nutrients that the body can use to function. Food passes through the digestive tract, which is made up of different organs that work together to digest food.
Can you eat plain pasta when sick?
To manage nausea and vomiting caused by an illness, it is important to avoid greasy, fatty, spicy, or strong-smelling foods. Instead, opt for plain, bland foods like potatoes, pasta, or rice with plain chicken, fish, or cold cuts of meat, and try milky puddings, ice lollies, or ice-creams. Salty foods like crisps, salted biscuits, cheese, or soup may be easier to eat.
To avoid nausea, eat small and often rather than having large meals, always trying to eat something as having an empty stomach can make nausea worse. Frequent nibbling may help keep sickness under control, and dry foods like plain biscuits, ginger biscuits, crackers, or toast can be used. If the smell of cooking makes you feel sick, stay away from the kitchen or ask a friend or family member to cook for you.
Eat near an open window for fresh air and store un eaten food. Take a short walk before a meal, sit upright, and avoid lying down immediately after eating. Ice-cold drinks may help, but don’t have lots of fluids just before a meal. Sip a fizzy drink slowly through a straw, such as ginger ale, cola, lemonade, or soda water. Consume ginger-containing foods and drinks to reduce the feeling of sickness, and cut down on caffeine, cigarettes, and alcohol.
If constipation is a problem, consult your doctor for advice on prescribing anti-sickness medication (anti-emetics) and taking them regularly as advised.

When you have diarrhea, you should prioritize food with soluble fiber, like white bread, white rice and white pasta. You should also look to include lean meats (like chicken a fish) and fruits without the peel (as the peel can be hard to digest) into your diet, as these foods can help with digestion, reduce bowel movements and help with abdominal pain.
In the meantime, to manage pain and loose stools, you should avoid eating processed foods and fatty foods, like premade sauces, fried food, cured meat, milk and dairy products. You should also avoid eating foods that can increase gas production, like beans, chickpeas, broccoli and fizzy drinks.
Can I eat plain pasta with gastro?
7. You should try and eat if you have gastro. Most patients experience loss of appetite when they have gastro, and the conventional wisdom is that you shouldn’t eat. But doctors now advise that you should eat if you feel hungry. Eating helps the lining of the intestine to heal more quickly, and allows the body to regain strength. Start with small amounts of food like pasta, rice or dry biscuits or toast. And remember to keep up the fluids.
8. Gastro can take a few weeks or months to get over. Most gastro illnesses should pass within two or three days, but in some types of gastro, such as a giardia infection, symptoms can last for months if left untreated – and can recur. If you think you might have giardia, see your Doctor.
9. Gastro can be prevented. The best way to prevent gastro is prevent the spread of viruses and bacteria. Germs are transferred onto hands from the faeces of an infected person, which can often happen when changing nappies, for example. The germs from unwashed hands then end up on toys, doorknobs, kitchen surfaces, etc. Practise good hand hygiene, and teach your children from an early age the importance of washing hands with soap and water. Sick patients should stay away from childcare, preschool, school or work until there has been no vomiting or diarrhoea for at least 24 hours. Keep sick children away from swimming pools and communal toys, and wash down frequently touched surfaces in the house.

If you have had radiation therapy or chemotherapy, you may have diarrhea as a side effect. Too much fiber in your diet will make diarrhea worse. What pasta is best for diarrhea?
If you’re feeling something a little less snacky, try some rice or pasta as your bland starch of choice. For diarrhea, Dr. Clarke specifically recommends plain white versions: They’re good sources of carbohydrates —which you need for energy, whether you’re pooping prolifically or not—that can help bind your stools. But because they have a little less fiber than their whole-grain counterparts, they can be easier on your gut. While eating more of that nutrient is generally a good thing, you want to skip that advice when you’re dealing with diarrhea, since too much of it (especially the insoluble kind, which whole grains have a bunch of) can make your loose stools even worse.
“Cooking veggies helps to soften fibers, making it easier on your digestive system,” Sauceda says. Try steaming some broccoli or carrots and combining them with other bland foods, like rice or a lean protein (which your stressed GI system will appreciate over higher-fat varieties). Sauceda also recommends eating veggies in soup—not only is the warmth super comforting, but it can also add some much-needed fluid. That’s super important if you’re pooping up a storm, since you’re losing water and electrolytes with each bowel blowout.
While you want to stay away from too much fiber when you’ve got the runs—especially the insoluble stuff—taking in a little bit of the soluble kind can actually be helpful. And sweet potatoes are a great way to get that, Sauceda says. “This can help give a firmer shape to your poop.” That’s because soluble fiber draws more water into your bowels, which slows your digestion down a bit.
