Enzyme-based drain cleaners work to clear organic waste from clogged drains by introducing enzymes or bacteria that feed on organic matter. To open clogged drains, dilute two cups of Earth Enzymes in two quarts of warm water and allow the product to work for 24 hours before running water to clear drain lines.

These all-natural, non-corrosive formulas gently unclog drains using a unique natural enzymatic action. They are often used in restaurants to control drain flies as they break down food residue and grease that inevitably slips through. Enzymes are often added to drain cleaners to help break down fats and grease, which helps prevent clogs and blockages in drains.

Ecozone’s Drain Unblocker is an easy-to-use solution, as it requires pouring a full bottle into the drain and letting it sit for 15 minutes before flushing with water. By using natural bacteria and enzymes, these cleaners can break down organic matter like food particles, hair, mold, and mildew, preventing clogs and blockages in drains.

In summary, enzyme-based drain cleaners are a gentler alternative to harsh chemicals for cleaning and maintaining clogged drains. By combining the cleaner with lukewarm water, pouring it down the drain, and allowing the enzymes to work for several hours, these cleaners can effectively unclog drains and prevent clogs.

When it comes down to it, the short answer is yes. Enzyme drain cleaners are effective — but only to a certain extent. These drain cleaners work uniquely, in that they contain living organisms that feed on organic materials such as food scraps.

Since this feeding process is much gentler than if you were to dump a potent chemical drain cleaner into your drain, you can expect enzymatic drain cleaners to work at a much slower pace. This slow process might be inconvenient or frustrating for some homeowners looking for a quick, effective solution.

Enzyme Cleaners Aren’t Best for Tough Clogs. Although enzyme drain cleaners are effective to some degree, it’s important to point out that they aren’t always the best solution. You might want to avoid these cleaners if you’re in search of an immediate fix for large, stubborn drain clogs.

  • Yeah it was scripted alot like it. Immediately it struck me as another over the top clowning routine intro that was similar to SNL and some commercials for products we have all seen from time to time .I almost changed to another article as soon as they started pitching it. Glad I didnt. They actually were serious and not clowning. It was a good article. Like the clear pipe so we see 1 example of what really can go on inside.

  • Ya this is a little unrealistic. I’m running water or have it topped off and you are usually clearing only one clog. When I know I’ve hit the clog or cleared I will run it back and forth multiple times in that spot and then beyond. All while running water. Not putting down jetting for the right application.
